Well, at the end of the day, it's handheld hardware, so naturally it has to make more sacrifices than games on, say, PS4. Of course software gets judged by the standards of the hardware running it, that's why PS4/Xbone games don't get criticized for not hitting 4k/60fps in AAA titles.

Specifically, that Mario is not Nintendo as a whole.

I can name quite a few Nintendo franchises that would definitely benefit from more powerful hardware - Xenoblade, Metroid (Prime), Pilotwings, Starfox, Pikmin. I'm sure that there are more first-party ones that I've missed.

Pikmin, Star Fox will look amazing on PS4++ hardware. The issue with things like Metroid and Xenoblade is they are relatively small franchises in actual sales. Nintendo is never going to spend a monstrous budget on par with Uncharted 4 on games like that, so the hardware is kinda moot because the budget needed to push the hardware to the limits isn't available. 

I just knew that you'd give the budget excuse for Xenoblade, of all things.

Listen, I'm sure that Metroid Prime 4 would punch above its weight in terms of sales just because of the hype that the Metroid fanbase is giving it. And, of course, given the kind of effort that Xenoblade X got, I don't doubt that Monolith Soft will punch above their weight in terms of graphics.

Ps4 and X1 get mocked all the time for not hitting 1080p or 60 fps regularly. But relatively speaking, they do a lot for the price of the hardware.

Anywho, all these machines show their limitations because they all push their limits.

I hope we get a more powerful Switch years from now. But its still impressive for size and price.

That's true, but the kind of people who mock PS4/Xbone for not hitting 1080p/60fps regularly tend to mock Switch's graphical capabilities also.

Given devices like the New 3DS, PS4 Pro, and Scorpio, I would not be surprised if a more powerful Switch model is released in 2020 or so.
