Forums - Nintendo - Your Switch connection: LAN or WLAN?

How is your Switch connected to the internet when docked?

WLAN / WiFi 26 60.47%

LAN / Ethernet 13 30.23%

Don't know 2 4.65%

Don't care 2 4.65%

I was very disappointed with the WLAN performance of my Switch when I got it last week, especially when it is in the docking station.

Today my Ethernet Adapter for €11 arrived (compatible to Wii, Wii U and Switch), and it was a good investment.

Now I get a solid connection (40 - 50 Mbit/s download, 10 - 13 MBit/s upload) instead of an unstable 3 Mbit/s connection (both download + upload).

Is your docking station wired or is your WLAN good enough?

I use the same adapter that I used for my WiiU. No complaints.

Wireless
No complaints

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Any USB - Ethernet adapter should work.
I just use the one I had hanging around, I think it used to be connected to my WiiU.

I mostly play undocked, so wi-fi. I have no complaints, it works well enough for Splatoon.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Wi-Fi no problems here (on 5 GHz if that matters)

I haven't had a problem with wi-fi in over a decade now with any platform.

You're the reason people can't have fun online, laggy villain.

Just because you play Wifi only doesn't mean internet is laggy. Not everyone is stuck with laggy internet on wifi.

I play mostly undocked as well as sometimes I multitask (watch tv and play games at the same time) and for some reason the Switch I like more as a portable. My Wifi I get between 100-200Mbps Up and about 25 Mbps Down. Still plently fast although not close to my 300-350Mbps up and 30 down when on ethernet.

Well and here you made the mistake of taking that post seriously.

...but actually seriously now. God I envy you first world people! Here I have to live with an inconsistent 10mbps down and 1mbps up, it's actually pretty crappy :/

I feel you, those are my speeds as well.  One of the prices of living in the middle of nowhere.  That said I'm glad I have DSL and don't have to use expensive shitty satellite.

As for the OP I've been going wireless thus far (occasional issues with Spla2oon) but I'm about to move the switch upstairs to my computer's monitor and will use my adapter at that point when playing docked.

Huh, so apparently middle of nowhere standards are the same there as they are here.

Yeah the US infrastructure is pretty poor in comparison to say Europe.  But there is a lot of ground to cover here that isn't very densely populated especially the farther west you move in the country.
