Forums - Microsoft - Insomniac On Sunset Overdrive 2: "We Just Need To Find A Publisher!"

Sony ... come on. Just tell them that they are willing to allow them to fully own the IP as long as they port the original over to the

Insomniac is at their best when they work exclusively with Sony. This game would’ve been far more successful as a PS4 exclusive.

Insomniac went with MS because they wanted to retain the full rights to the IP. That's why I think that would be the best way for Sony to approach the deal.

The PS5 Exists.

Can you imagine if Nintendo fund it like they did with Bayonetta?

Was here to say that. Makes you wonder if the uproar would be similar?

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

You didn't like Sunset Overdrive?

I think he is talking about sales

What do sales have to do with a developer being at their best?

A developer should only ever be rated by the quality of their games. The publishers can fuss about sales.

I doubt it. With Bayonetta, we had both Sony and MSoft followers complaining about it. With Sunset Overdrive, we would "only" have the Xbox fans.

Please excuse my bad English.

While i agree with you with the bolded, in Insomniac case their best games has been exclusive to something while their shittiest has been Multiplats.

Maybe coincidence, but it should be looked closer.

True, but unlike Bayonetta Sunset was an exclusive. That would add to the saltiness

They've only had a couple multiplatform games, one of which was subject to EA's oversight. The only other  multiplat I recall was actually pretty solid, and was a $15 budget game. They've made far more allegedly-bad games when exclusive than not - the Ratchet fanbase HATES FFA, A4O, sometimes QfB, and Deadlocked even gets trash for being different sometimes. Plus there was that GamingBrit video on the PS4 game that did the usual "it's been a year, this game is no longer good" revision that changed public opinion a decent bit.

The phrasing I'd use if I were you is that their games are miles better when they have their own oversight - Fuse was morphed into a generic, throwaway title due to EA, while the rest of their games have been at the very worst "decent" when they were their own boss, and just tossed the funding by Sony/MS/even internally or through a micropublisher like GameStop.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

You're right.

But over here there aren't many Xbox fans, so we should be safe.

Crazy part is that you all assume they have not pitched a sequel to other publishers including Sony. I have Sunset and its a awesome game but it just did not sell well. You can blame MS but I do not believe you can blame them for lack of marketing because they marketed the game a lot. Even had it bundle with the Xbox console. The real problem with Sunset is that it was a new property and with a lot of new property it just did not have what it takes to cause gamers to purchase the game.

Maybe if Insomniac update the game for the X1X release and MS put some more marketing behind it it may get a new lease on life and sell more copies thus giving MS the feeling a sequel could do well.

Maybe Valve could fund it.
I would love to see what Insomniac could do with near unlimited power.

Gabe dude has $5.5 billion in the bank, he could fund all the dream games in the industry and still be a billionaire.

Half Life 3, Portal 3, Scalebound, Sunset Overdrive 2, Timesplitters 4, DMC5, Shenmue 3 with proper budget etc...
