Forums - Gaming Discussion - Xbox One X Shadow of War shows profound improvements over PS4 Pro

As thing stand, Shadow of War gives us a prime, early example of why Microsoft targeted Xbox One X's specific specs. The sense is that a higher pixel count alone isn't enough; more importantly, this console has the extra memory resources to give those pixels more to show off - better textures, and improved LODs, for example. Additional visual options such as the ability to toggle dynamic resolution scaling are also welcome. Those who want their true 4K can have it, while those looking for more consistent performance are also catered for.

The Xbox One X version is near PC quality with the 4K textures!

It's almost as if a 50% power difference matters, like it did so far this gen...

No mater how much power you throw at this game, it is never going to look good.

So the lootboxes and similars look prettier on X1X?

I thought the Xbox One X was coming out towards the end of next month. I just realized it's like three weeks away!

I'm ready.

Having played Shadow of war on max settings at 4k on the PC, I can say that the Xbox One X version looks quite similar in quality.

Not that I care but DF boasting about a solid 30fps (with drops to low 20's in one area) doesn't sound all that great. No 60 fps mode is an omission. At least then you could see some real benefit on a 1080p tv. DF suspects it's the weak cpu causing the drops, next gen really needs to step it up with the cpu.

There are definitely improvements, but DF really needs a wider vocabulary. I remember last year they were calling the Pro differences "night and day" and "huge." Now it's "profound" (and also "huge" a lot of times). There is nothing profound about the differences here, they're nice upgrades, just as the Pro differences were decent as well. I guess gaming culture (along with most online articles) are always too extreme for my tastes, not everything is a 1 or a 10, sometimes it's just a 5 or a 6.

I'll admit, though, that I'm only a 1080p owner. I can see the differences when DF zooms in and blows up the pictures by 800 percent, but when the games run side by side they always look pretty similar, even on my projector screen.

I know right, crazy isn't it? Turns out more power means prettier games... who'd have thought! :o

Nice to know the extra power is actually being used though, wonder how big the difference is in other games, get ready for a whole bunch of Digital Foundry X1X videos when it releases, just like we had with the Pro, lol.

Are we ready for the reversal of PS4X1 release?

Unless it removed the lootboxes, i'm still not interested in either version.
