Forums - General - Former Naughty Dog Employee Says He Was Sexually Harassed

Been reading the comment sections on a few news sites regarding this story and I just want to bury my head in sand in shame that I share the same species with some of these idiots.

While I believe harassment of any kind should get zero tolerance, I also believe in the burden of proof lying on the accuser. Yeah, we need to be supportive of victims, but not blindly trusting of their narrative unless they can back it up with a bit more than just a twitter message. Accusing someone of harassment / rape / mean talking years after the fact leads us into this really awkward situation where the accuser can't prove the accused did it, and the accused can't prove he didn't do it, in which case we're up to "the word vs the word" and the result is damaged public image for everyone, especially once it goes viral. The general public likes its pound of flesh and it doesn't matter who it rips it out of.
This sort of thing would go over a lot better if we could, as a society, distance ourselves from the idea of "I'm too ashamed or afraid to come out with an accusation because of various circumstancial things". The real cancer is that people are afraid that the instutions which should normally protect their rights, will actually end up harming them...and so, years pass and something happens and suddenly everyone's a victim of something because someone else decided they'd be brave about their experience.
And who the fuck do you believe then?
The supposed victims? We've been reading of plenty of false rape claims for years now and how the term "rape" itself has become a bastardisation of its original self.
The supposed perpetrators? Plenty of big names have got away with despicable acts, that's no secret and no conspiracy theory.

Sorry for the rant, had it simmering in me for a while...

Well no one is really saying that on this forum thus far.

Plus I don't see this getting that much coverage so far ... maybe that's just me? ... probably because he's male

"When I told them about the harassment they ended the call and fired me the next day."

No wonder Sony wanted to silence him, this can't be very good PR for them. To be fair they were assholes in this situation, so they probably deserve any backlash they get from it.

True, wasn't implying people here are making a fuss. Just...in general.

The story's been out for less than a day, he's male, he's white, he's offered no names, no details, no actual proof of anything or anything for people to latch unto, Sony isn't either at the top of the game or the bottom, ND aren't releasing anything super high profile in the next few weeks...soooo, yeah, I don't really see the story going very far as it is for now.

Yep. Shitty situation

The more I hear about HR in general, the worse it sounds.

All this is going to be is just ammo for the console war. I have seen it at other places to my amazement. All I want to say is:

- This is could be a isolated issue, we don't know the whole truth.
- If true, then Sony is doing what many other Japanese and even American companies do (which is the real issue).

Either way, it's horrible.

Seems we keep hearing stories from ND last couple years about bullshit going on. Thier games are vastly overrated and seemingly have terrible working conditions.

Edit: Will it?

Im not really upset with Naughty Dog but of it ends up being true ill be mad at Sony

He should've taken the money. Very few people in our current world are going to have empathy for him, unfortunately. There are still tons of people who think men can't be victims of sexual harrasment, assault and/or rape outside of prison situations.

Well, this news bums me out. Hopefully this can lead to some positive change within international industry. Actually listening to employees when this happens instead of trying to sweep it under the rug with money, and resulting in retaliation against accusers when they can't silence it. It never makes the situation better. It's better PR to confront it head on when it happens. Show some strength.
