No exclusives? It will not sell well.

What is your opinion?

I most certainly hope that the Xbox One X will succeed. I am no Xbox fan, I don't plan to buy the X or any other Xbox product, probably ever but I'm thinking that if the X fails, Sony will go "Nintendo" on our consumers' asses and say: No need to push the power in consoles in the future for the PS5 cause people don't want to buy powerful systems anyway, let's just change the hood of the PS4, add a little tweak here and there and bam, let's give that to consumers in a couple years and call it PS5.

I do find it strange how people saying it's appealing to a core audience so it's fine if it doesn't sell that well.
That's not the problem, it's that the S sales have flatlined, so it NEEDS to do well with a larger audience to even break even.
It's not going to be an absolute disaster on its own, but it is going to be one in context

The XBox One X could actually be hurting sales as well.

I was about to jump the gun in on an XBox One S when MS revealed the Scorpio right after. The S seemed like a great update, everything I wanted from the Xbox One after the inital mess. However with the Scorpio reveal I decided to wait again. Then it turned out to be CAD 600 here, and not even have VR. So do I buy the inferior product or overpay for a slight upgrade (sure it's in 4K but does it really matter if the S can do HDR as well, which is the bigger upgrade)
Anyway I've decided to keep waiting until MS reveals some solid plans for VR, maybe in 2018.

It seems to be the case; after all, they've spent upwards of two years hyping the X up, why would anyone ever buy the S now?!

By their own admission, the X "isn't for everyone", but their marketing has pushed it as the only Xbox worth buying.
They brought this on themselves

Pretty big userbase for a device nobody cares about.

Anywho, I believe the X1X will stimulate sales. People will upgrade, some will buy it simply because it offers the most polished console ports. It will help get the X1 userbase to 40 million faster.

Is it gonna be some huge game changer though? No, not really. But MS will benefit by having the best ports, its a talking point.

Yup.. you are right. Especially the talking point part.

I do think though that people are too quick to forget their history and to notice that this has all happened before.

This is just the PS2 vs Xbox all over again. Albeit this time around the xbox brand is a better known entity and would at least be more successful than the ogXbox was.

Then, not only did the Xbox have the "most powerful console in the world" it didn't have the kinda price difference gap that the one x will have to the PS4.

And i also think thats what people forget, the one x isn't competing with the PS4pro..... its competing with the PS4.

I have my beliefs, but lets  just say it remains to be seen just how important "better/native 4k" is going to be.

None of this matters though, because i think its obvious now that MS is all about running a better more profitable division than about "winning" a war.

I agree with you here is that MS is more concerned about being a profitable division then winning the console war.  There is absolutly no chance of MS ever catching up this gen unless Sony makes several huge mistakes.  So with that mindset, I believe the X1X is just a reset for MS.  Its not going to set the world on fire, it's only positioned for their core base.  It's priced only for people who want the most powerful system for MS only and 3rd party games and even then the difference over the Pro might not be significant.

Will the X1X be a diaster, I highly doubt it.  My reason why is that it's just not positioned to sell at high volumn.  It will probably see moderate boost from Xbox onwers.  It may get a few over the fense that enjoyed their 360 days and it will be positioned to be the budget console whenever MS and Sony decides on their next iteration.

Everywhere we read the same reasons and it is true. I am also of the opinion. What brings a new Xbox without new great Exclusives games? And games like the new "God of War", "Detroit Become Human", "Death Stranding" and "The Last of Us 2" will be graphic reference. also many Xbox fans put a sign against the new Xbox for these reasons, as I read in the xbox forum. I think the new Xbox this year does not make sense. 2019 comes the right new Xbox-Generation, hopefully it will be better than in recent years..

And my personally biggest problem with the xbox one is: Microsoft has completely abandoned the Japanese games market - all big jrpgs do not appear on xbox one (Persona 5, Ni No Kuni 2, Tales of, Star Ocean 5 (& SO4 Port), Bloodborne, Tokyo Xanadu, Atelier, Disgaea, Dragon Quest 11, ect). The Xbox One X has the same concept like the Xone -.-

Of course it will. There is literally no reason to spend $500 buck on that thing.

The console market doesn't care about hardware. They care about games. What console do I need to play this game? That's what people will buy. Which console will get the DLC first? That's what people will buy.

The 1% of Xbox fan base that cares about hardware will buy the XBox One X. That's about it.

Ill buy it, i hate origin and uplay on pc so i buy those games on console and the X1X is going to be a pretty big step from my launch ps4, best case scenario the xbox one x slightly outdoes the ps4 pro but i doubt it, either way it won't change the scape of how this generation is going.

Ps4 will sell best followed by switch followed by xbox one, but thats ok i think they all sell enough consoles and software to justify their place in the market and maybe next generation xbox will do beter, we can hope

I would say your prediction will turn true

Can't always use this argument though.  Lowest selling systems ever have some of the highest attach rates.

I need to go find the source, but on the top of my memory, the Ps3 sold just as much if not a little more than the 360. However, the 360 had a much higher attach ratio (almost 2 to 1). It's because of two things. 1. It dominated regions that buy more software for their consoles (North America and U.K.) 2. It also played multiplatform games better so it attracted the hardcore gamers.

That's the other thing, if the Xbox One X just does well in North America and U.K. than the Xbox one X is a success because those regions buy more games for their console than any other regions. Right now Xbox is domination latin America, but it isn't a huge win because they don't buy a lot of games compared to the other regions.

Where did you got these number?

Per VGC numbers both HW and SW sales are quite close for X360 and PS3 with PS3 a little in front in HW and X360 a little in front in SW and attach ratio, but nothing close to 2:1.
