They still suck, you paid 60 dolars for a game with a free to play system, you want that great skin for your favourite character? SUCKS TO BE YOU, you can spend a month farming and still didnt get it, a skin for a character thats in the game that you paid 60 dolars but cant get. Unlews you whale it up and spend big bucks to raise the probability of getting it.

Its not THAT bad but its still bad. And you give a hand to these publishers and they want your arm, and here we are with endings behind this shit system of loot boxes in 2017, imagine what they will do in 2019 if no one cares.

Just a note here, if you want a specific skin, you can purchase it with the in-game currency thus removing the gambling aspect. The truly dickish move they did do however was making so the timed event skin weren't purchasable with that currency for the first event. Luckily, they listened to the negative feedback and since then event skins can be purchased with in game gold.

Yeah indeed and last years items are 1/3rd the price from their events.

So this years new Halloween Legendary skins are 3k but last years Witch Mercy skin for example is just 1k now, or the last years epic skins which were 750 are now a very low 250 pretty class considering how awesome some of those epic skins are.

Blizzard wasn't smart enough to be the first to milk the cash cow. I will say that Overwatch was the most popular of them though, and probably made the most money, so in that sense they are popularizing the practice.

You can do that in Overwatch, alongside items from boxes every item (except for player icons) are available to purchase for between 25-3000 gold, getting a Legendary gold drop gives 500g (1 in 13 boxes have a legendary item) so there is luck to getting what you want... or if you don't get it you can buy the items you want specifically.

I don't understand people attacking a system they don't know.

If i want a skin for a particular character can i farm and unlock it then?

Yes.

Lootboxes took place way before Blizzard released Overwatch.

Every card game has a form of "lootbox" in ways of card packs because of the randomization of what cards you get.

Overwatch is definitely the most popular of their franchises that used a Lootbox system. But the "open something that is filled with randomness" took place way before Overwatch even in video games. I remember playing Valve's Team Fortress 2 with their crate system.

The Lootboxes in Overwatch aren't even that bad and you don't need to pay anything in real money for them...its mostly for skin unlocks and superficial things anyways. Much better than some games that hide weapons and other game altering things behind them.

It seems everyone attacking lootboxes in Overwatch has never played Overwatch. Predictable, but still funny.

Most fo them are pure single-player kind of gamers that barelly play multplayer seriously. LoL has lootboxes, CSGO has lootboxes, Dota 2 has lootboxes and everybody who really plays them constantly-religiously is fine with that. They are simply skins that don't affect the gameplay.

Nope. Fifa has been doing this for ages, on console as well as PC.

Nope only in Fifa 17 now, its wasnt random gambling microtransactions before. Also its very clear that only now after overwatch we have this massive wave other companies doing the same, its obvious

False. You can buy FUT packs (which are the same thing as loot boxes) since FIFA 10.

Tell me how many hours you spended in your most played multiplayer game and we can compare :)

I have years of CSGO and LoL (have been playing them since their launch - CS since the first one in early 2000s in lanhouses).

Yup, can pick any skin you want after about a season of competitive play and you'll be earning Competitive points to unlock golden weapons for your character of choice, absolutely none of the items in the game require you to buy them. I've never spent a single euro on loot boxes but have every skin I want for Mercy from all the Events and have her golden weapons.

Yes.

So you need coins to buy skins and is a random drop in loot boxes xD

How much time i need to spend farming to get a legendary 1000 skin price.

here is a video of a dude opening 101 and getting only 4k, you need 101 boxes to get 4 1000 price skins...

Like i said its not THAT bad like other games but still.

I couldn't give you a timeframe because I play the game not because I wanna grind for skins but because the game is fun.  Right now, I'm sitting on about 3.8k gold and I'm waiting until the end of the Halloween event to see if I'll buy something with it. With the 5-6 loot boxes I got last night, I already got one of the skins I wanted (Pirate Ana).
