Animal Crossing should be set for 2018. They're probably just timing it for the Smartphone release. Since it could have a PoGo effect.

Im hoping for Pokemon to be in 2018 too. Especially if they have been working for it since Sun and Moon. Then yeah theres Smash Deluxe. Will bring the hype for sure!

Can't see a brand new pokemon on Switch before 2019

Smash Deluxe? 4 years after the latest Smash Bros.? They should be making a new one by now xD

They did continue to make content for Smash until February 2016 (Bayonetta and Corrin) so a brand new Smash title would be pretty far off.

So did the Mario Kart 8 team with the ''Zelda x Mario Kart 8'' and ''Animal Crossing x Mario Kart 8'' DLC packs. They made DLCs until mid-2015 but still had time left to craft ARMS and MK8DX with the new Battle Mode (and also new characters and gameplay tweaks).

And also, I doubt most of the team worked on Bayonetta and Corrin. They usually have a portion of the team working on additional content and the rest move on to another project (so I'd like to think )

Switch is sold out on Amazon Japan.

Ok, so it's not actually sold out on Amazon Japan - it's just selling for $100 more than the RRP.

Wich means Nintendos stock is sold out officially and it's only available through scalping resellers. Otherwise by your definition of 'not sold out' The NES mini has been 'in stock' through the whole of last year, despite the console not actually being in production.

Pokemon and Animal Crossing are not coming in 2018. Pokemon is simply not ready. The Splatoon team and the Animal Crossing team are the same thing. Do not expect anything until 2019. Honestly Nintendo is just fine for the 1st half of the year. They have Fire Emblem, Yoshi and Kirby to do some sales. Whatever Nintendo has for the 2nd half will be saved for E3.

My money is that we will get Retro's game and 2D mario by the 2nd half of 2018. 2D mario alone will be boost Switch sales to unbelievable heights.

While it's true that the Splatoon Team is an offshoot of the Animal crossing team, almost none of the Splatoon Team ever worked on Animal crossing, they were recruited from all over Nintendo to build a new Team. The main Animal Crossing Team was free to develop something else in the meantime.

Ever since Nintendo restuctured their software departments in 2015, every major Team works on two big games + one small game concurrently. (The only exeption being Team Zelda, who usually work on a console Zelda and a handheld Zelda concurrently with smaller handheld offshoots a la Triforce Heroes inbetween.)

The big games in this case have been Splatoon and Splatoon 2 in quick succession, while the small games have been the dreadful animal crossing party game and Happy Home Designer. That means they are due for the next big game soon.

The Team that is really awol is EAD 4, aka the pikmin Team. Their last release was Mario Maker in 2015...

Not really. 2D Mario was a fad...

FE Switch will probably be mid or late 2018n

Those "fads" are what cause Nintendo to make 3D Mario more like 2D mario. Those "fads" had 2D mario outselling 3D Mario always. If Nintendo can make an ambitious 3D Mario that is a huge system seller then Nintendo can make an ambitious 2D Mario to become an even bigger system seller. The easy reason being is that Peak 2D Mario will always obliterate Peak 3D Mario. However we will have to wait and see what Nintendo does with 2D Mario first.

You dont know that. They said they aiming to release Pokemon next year. Last Animal Crossing game is released long time ago, there were definitely more than enuf time to prepare new Animal Crossing for 2018. year. I definitely expecting at least one of those two games to be released in 2018. and I think higher chances are for Animal Crossing.

I am not sure about 2D Mario beacuse we already have 2D games for next year, also I am definatly sure we will not get new NSMB game, maybe new kind of 2D Mario or Mario Maker DX/2.

2018 is the earliest the Pokemon game can come.   Also Nintendo has the game as 2018 or later. However between every new generation of Pokemon there is usually 3 years in between. If it comes out in 2018 it will scream "rushed". Sun and Moon came out in 2016 so 2019 seems just right. You got to remember that they are also adjusting to new hardware.  Again the Animal Crossing team just got done making Splatoon 2. So if Animal Crossing is being released next year than it is  mostly a new team. Which could be possible but I think it is less likely.

Green098 said:

I'd say no. Nintendo need at least one of their biggest IP's releasing in 2018 and that consists of Mario, Pokemon and Animal Crossing (their IP's that have been 10 million+ sellers before).

Animal Crossing New Leaf came out in 2012, they've had plenty of time to be working on one even with Splatoon. By 2018 that will be six years since it finished development, and Splatoon games have a very quick development time like most shooters, compared to big games like Zelda. I'd say we are overdue for a new mainline Animal Crossing game especially since the Wii U didn't get one. Nintendo is a big company they can handle the output of these games especially with 3DS getting more and more out of the picture.

Pokemon we know already has a 2018/19 release date, so it is possible and is commonly a yearly release. I think it could either way, I don't know how you could say it is simply not ready, when we don't know how far in development it is.

Mario games come out every year, it's just whether they're more mainline or spin-off is the question. A big mainline 3D Mario game is coming out in 2017, so the other options would be a 2D Mario game or a higher tier spin-off like Mario Kart 9, but it may be too close to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's release for that just yet.

There is also Super Smash Bros, but if it's a enhanced port which I think it will be it doesn't count just as much.

We have to be getting a brand new title of at least one of Nintendo's big flagship IP's in 2018, the 3DS and Wii U both managed to do this in there second year, there is no excuse for the Switch not to.

If Animal Crossing comes out next year it will be a surprise to me. I just don't think they can make a game like Animal Crossing in a year unless they got a new team to make it.  Animal Crossing would have came out on the Wii U but the Animal Crossing team decided on Splatoon  instead. They probably did that because Animal Crossing on the Wii was not a killer app they wanted.

Here is what we know so far for 2018.
Kirby
Fire Emblem
Yoshi

We should expect
A Mario game
Retro's game

Nintendo usually releases around 8 games a year. There are probably 3 titles that we have no idea what it could be. Animal Crossing could be one of those titles but I don't think it is likely.
