I think it would be a new IP

If Tropical Freeze is getting a port, I don't think Retro would be doing it

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

Around the Network

That's one of the big questions with Nintendo. Unless they've been helping other Nintendo studios, one can only imagine that they began working on a WiiU game that later got moved to Switch.

As for what game it can be, the best guess is that it's a new franchise. Does that mean a new IP or an old one? Well, who knows.

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

F-Zero, big budget, BotW style.
New IP.
Plus a smaller new IP, similar to Boy Boy.

Tropical Freeze is well designed it's very detailed for a 2D plat. But I didn't have so much fun with it compared to Mario and even the SNES games. Something about it was off, it may have been the controls.

I hope whatever Retro is doing, they will have good fortune with it. From the sounds of it, where there's smoke there's fire. I'm inclined to believe they have been developing something, but entered development hell at some point.

What the hell would a "BotW style" F-Zero be?

Retro knows.

BotW style budget and scope.

Track editor, custom characters, seamless multiplayer, player housing, quests, ect.

It's hard to do that with such an arcade type of game. To do a "BotW" style the team would have to expand.

BotW was made inside Nintendo HQ where they shuffle around development staff all the time. For Zelda they usually focus a lot of people around the end. And I'm sure they did that intensely for BotW.

Retro is a medium sized team and it's a completely different building. They'd have to literally hire a bunch of people, and that isn't easy to do, especially since they're working for such a finance conscious company like Nintendo. They have had a long time to work on something though, I have my expectations high too.

A prototype of the prototype is already available in BotW.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I want to see what they can accomplish with a new IP. I'm excited just thinking about the possibilities!!

Of course, but unless it's a VC game, I don't want or think Nintendo even wants to continue advertising ports to sell their consoles.

The only reason they even did Mario Kart 8 or Pokken is because they had no games ready

You could say that about Mario Kart 8, but Pokken Tournament's releasing into a pretty packed schedule.  If anything, it's getting lost in the shuffle as Nintendo's concentrating its marketing efforts on Mario Odyssey and, to a lesser degree, Fire Emblem Warriors.

I kinda expect to find a couple more Wii U games sneaking onto the release calendar next year.  We're moving past the stage where Nintendo would have to worry about the Switch gaining a reputation as just a new home for Wii U games since they're showing that they have plenty of new stuff to put onto the system.  And Tropical Freeze is as good as any potential port.

In my opinion Pokken Tournament was a really odd choice to port. I agree with you that in it's release schedule it's unnecessary, but the goal was still to inflate the Switch's library. Maybe Nintendo assumed putting it on a portable in Japan would carry momentum? Very odd choice.

Xenoblade X and DKCTF are way better. Personally those are the two ports I would want the most in a physical retail release, but that doesn't change the fact that , as unlikely as it may be, I don't want Nintendo to use old games to sell a system.
