In my opinion, the Wii motion control main selling point had been a very fresh new idea, but poorly/gimmickly implemented.

Wii Sports was an awesome tech demo, excellent for families, friends, easy going game.

It's indeniable, the Wii had a bunch of cool games (Mad World, NMH, Muramasa, Metroid Prime Trilogy, SSBB, MKWii, SMG...)

However, I remember, after getting the console end 2006 after the supply constrain issues, having an excellent moment of gaming in 2008 (EU player here ^^), but after.... Total drought.

I think Ninty supported the console for 2 years, then let it die, and did not tried to push the third party. Ninty could have payed exclusivities or partnership with them, as MS or Sony did. But they did not.

And for this, I'll never forget Nintendo. The good thing is, the droughts made me play on Steam with Steam rising, then buy a PS3, to enjoy the near endless train of excellent games on different platforms.

Also, I played a lot of Gamecube games, NGC was my favourite console along the SNES, and the Wii took too much from the NGC. For all those who did not play NGC, I understand the Wii was awesome.

It was ok, just ok. Too many shovelware me too Just Dance games. For every Goldeneye there were about ten different dance games. Their should have been way more variety than that. But then again maybe they couldnt do more because the actual motion controls were not good, if a game required more than waggle that was it (IE SW Force Unleashed, that could have been something truly special).

3rd party games were usually worse versions of games available elsewhere. But I expected that. Online sucked for a while. I expected that too. VC turned to crap toward the end (didnt expect that). The actual Nintendo games were fine. Just fine. The only series that really improved was 3d Mario.

But it had GC backward compatibility! Overall its OK, wasnt expensive. Had a few good games.

My only gripe with it is only for the games that mainly focus on motion controls, doesn't always work as well if you're left handed :/

Can't you just hold the Wiimote in your left hand and the nunchuk in your right?

2 years? Wii got tons of games in 2010, it's 4th year. It wasn't until year 5 in 2011 that it was left out to dry.

Whoa whoa whoa, this came before the actual internet?!

It's Usenet so you should be able to find posts from up to 1980. The oldest post I could find was from 1982....which is a review of an Atari porn game.

I knew something came before, but I couldn't remember the name. Still funny that fanboy forum flame wars are older than the internet.

I disagree. The spirit in the Switch feels more SNES than anything else.

That's okay. You aren't the only one who wants to avoid the Wii.

The fact that there are enough people who want to avoid the Wii to warrant that statement should be proof enough that the Switch is channeling SNES. Otherwise we'd be seeing assisted living homes trying to gobble up the Switch like they did with the Wii. Instead it's just core gamers, similar to the demographic would you have found on the SNES.

I've never understood the argument that "it's a bad console because it has shovelware". I mean, nobody is forcing you to play Carnival Games or Imagine Poneyz 5, you can just ignore them.

I remember at the time I got caught up in the Wii hype, and for the first couple of years really loved it. However it quickly became tiresome after that and the whole waggle thing started to grate on me. Don't get me wrong, motion controls done well are immersive but too many games had motion controls tacked on that weren't necessary. Nintendo's core output was simply great and I really enjoyed FPS games with the pointer controls but shovelware was a big downside. I guess Im still none the wiser on my thoughts of the Wii, it had tremendous highlights and moments of frustration. A great success for Nintendo but ironically I much preferred the Wii U, Nintendo's biggest commercial failure if you discount virtual boy.

Do handheld gamers feel this way about the DS too? It's kind of odd because a lot of the hardcore handheld fans seem to love the DS a lot but that had a lot of shovelware too. Maybe it's just a home console gamer thing? Idk.

I'm lefty and I use the Wiimote on the right hand like any normal person, no problem.

Edit: though actually I might not be exactly lefty, technically.

Some games you'd use the nunchuck thumbstick on the left hand for moving your character, as you would with any other controllers but then the right hand requires to sometimes point/swipe/flick accurately or so, and it's a bit awkward to do when not using your dominate hand.  It's the similar feeling if you were to swing a bat/golf club/hockey stick/sword with your wrong hand.  At least that's how it felt for me.  I've tried using the nunchuck on my right hand but I can't navigate as well as using my left hand.

I'm a lefty, and I always hold it in my left hand, as that's my dominant hand.

Great Console!!
