Forums - Sales - PS4 Sales Figures: More than 25 Million Units in Europe & Software,fifa18 bundle

I was watching videos on the history of gaming in Europe today. It's very interesting to hear how Europe has always been a competitive market for alternatives. Apparently Sega was huge in Europe and instead of Sega trying to conquer Nintendo, Nintendo was trying conquer Sega. The gaming history there seems super interesting.

Fictional history tends to be interesting.

In reality Sega wasn't huge in Europe. The NES sold clearly better than the Master System, the SNES and Mega Drive had Sega marginally ahead (8m vs. 9m, Sega had a two year headstart in that generation), the N64 easily beat the Saturn. It's really not too different from North America where those three generations align pretty much in the same way, except that the SNES had a marginal lead over the Genesis.

The two year headstart didn't make them win in America. And of course the Saturn lost .... the video was about the Master System and Mega Drive.

Like I said, the SNES and Genesis were neck and neck in North America with a difference about as big as in Europe, only the order was flipped. If you combine North America and Europe, the SNES and Genesis/Mega Drive are virtually tied. The SNES's victory in that generation is built on Japanese sales.

In any case, Sega wasn't huge in Europe. Don't believe such lies.

Ok. I'm sorry Rol D: It was just such an interesting and well put video...

Yes and no

The Master System was cut short by the early arrival of the Mega Drive. Without Super Mario Bros 3 the Master System might even have won that gen in europe as it was THE killer app late in the NES life and boosted it's sales consoderably in Europe. But as it is the Master system is one million behind the NES in Europe. The NES legged out the Master System, but at it's height the Master System sold better throughout most of europe

PS4 is doing very well in European markets. I wonder if it will be able to outsell PS3 WW numbers in the EU alone. 25M without Gran Turismo, God of War, The Last of Us, Grand Theft Auto, or a casual price point. As is they will reach 50M without a sweat. Throw in a slimmer slim, a model above the Pro, and a Laptop/Hybrid/Whatever you wnat to call it, and things will be very ineresting. I also think they should seriously consider going after productivity apps. Get devs to port their x86 programs to the platform, and you would have the ultimate device for High School and College students.

While I don't put any stock in vgchartz numbers. Sony rules Europe more than Napolean could ever wish for

Now that's a good punchline

4,586,648 units in the UK, 4,500,813 units in Germany, and 3,500,665 units in France.

This is why it's ludicrous when people try and break console sales down to the UK, US and Japan. It's also why those same people scratch their heads and wonder why the PS4 has sold so many.

Well said.

Ps4 truly is a global juggernaut.  It sells well across the globe.  Sales this holiday will be massive.

At the end of the year it could be more than 70 millions units WW

That's INSANE!
