I'm going to guess this movie isn't good but because it was a bit like the original people loved it.
It happened with Star Wars Episode 7. It probably happened here.

I was SO nervous about this film disappointing but it sounds like Denis and company have pulled it off. I don't expect it to be on quite the same level as the original (if you can call it that), but it seems they rose to the challenge as well as one could hope. Time to book some tickets.

Hmm I don't know about this. The original is such a great movie imo. It's my nr 3 all time favorite. I'm kinda hesitant to even watch the trailer. Arrival and Sicario were pretty average so not sure about this director. But I like how this thread brings up all the great memories of the first movie.
Does it have the same kind of oppressing dreadful atmosphere as the first movie?
That seems pretty good so far, but I always wait for the full gamut of reviews to come in. I've seen too many movies on RT go from 100 to 30 in merely a week's time closer to release. I'll still see it though, even though I thought the first flick was kind of overrated.

Denis Villeneuve is one of the best directors around right now and I really can't think of anyone better for this film so I have pretty high hopes.
Hmm pleasantly surprised it reviewed this well, I thought about making the kids watch the original with some fast forwarding then taking them to see 2049, but clocking in at just shy of 3 hours i may just make the girlfriend watch it with me
Blade Runner is one of my all time favourites and watching trailer for 2049 didn't excite me at all...actually quite the opposite.
Harrison Ford being in it is really something for me to worry about - I'm on "Deckard is Replicant" side of the line (actually, I watched it recently again with someone who never seen it before, and she had no problem getting quickly to same conclusion), so if there is no clever explanation in 2049 it will be a real bummer.
I am super relieved that it's being so well received and apparently is at least not an insult to the original masterpiece. Absolutely love the first, so I'll definitely check this out now that I know it's not Indiana 4.
