Forums - Nintendo - Bethesda: Doom will run 720p in both docked and undocked mode on Switch.

The resolution bump could influence the performance though, so adjustments would be need, like optimization and stuff. And that could be the difference between making in time for december and just straight skipping it, which would not be ideal for the game.

Who knows, we could get a patch a la Bomberman in which they improve things down the line. But yeah, its disheartening to hear that they will not take advantage of the extra power.

Doom on PS4/Xbone uses dynamic resolution, which you would think would be retained for Switch, and it should take basically no work at all to set a higher threshold for when to drop resolution when docked, so that it simply drops res less often in this mode.

Well yeah I guess thats the case, but Im no developer.Im trying to find a reason for such decision.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

So the graphics aren't different in each mode and the game runs at 720p in docked mode ? If I am interpreting this correctly ... (no idea about the res so far in portable mode)

Yeah that is what I got from the article too.

What concerns me though is that this is Panic Button, seemingly the only Switch dev incapable of figuring out how to use Switch's x2.5 GPU boost when docked.

So .. the framerate and worst visuals aren't entirely the Switch's fault ?

Can we call Panic Button "turd party" now?

Who cares, tho?

Will be playing this mostly handheld but Bethesda, get to work on a patch post-release to take advantage of the extra power in docked mode.

Well their only other Switch game, Rocket League, is practically the only title on the system I'm aware of not to make use of the docked mode's higher GPU speeds.

If Doom does in fact run at a higher res when docked I'll take this back, but at the moment I do consider them a crap developer.

They did use the extra power ...

To be able to hit stable 30FPS in docked mode during four player split screen ...

So... I am the only one that is going to say it, huh?

If this exact same game, with these exact same specs, and the missing features had been announced as a Wii U port of DOOM, basically no one, myself included, would be happy with the port. The standards have changed. My how the standards have changed.

But seemingly no benefit at all for single screen or 2-player splitscreen. Couldn't even be bothered bumping it to 900-1080p.

4-player mode wouldn't be very viable on the handheld's screen anyway.

Maybe 60 fps when docked?
