How well will PUBG do on consoles?

It will barely move the needle 17 18.48%

It'll sell well, but less than on PC 50 54.35%

It'll be a huge hit 18 19.57%

500 million sales on launch day 7 7.61%

Total:92

My thinking is that it will do pretty well, but not like it has on PC.  I see three main reasons for it underperforming on consoles, relative to PC.

  1. Many people will already be playing it on PC.  This means that a fair number of the possible console buyers will already have the game on PC.  While the overlap in the playerbase between PC and console is not huge, it is significant enough to tamp down sales a bit.
  2. While I can't put my finger on exactly what it is about PUBG that makes me think this way, I tend to think that it is the type of game that appeals more to PC gamers than the console crowd.  This, if I'm correct, is the primary reason I think it will not be as big of a deal on consoles.
  3. The other biggie - it is exclusive, at least for a whole, to XB1.  That means that only about 1/3 of console owners have the ability to play it.  Even if it comes to PS4 several months later, it is likely that much of the hype will have died down by then.
On the other hand, there are some factors in its favor.  I can think of two big ones:
  1. The game is a huge phenomenon right now.  That may spur tons of console players to pick it up, even if they ordinarily would not.  I don't play on PC, and I wouldn't normally pick up a game like this.  As a general rule, I don't buy games that are PvP only.  But, I'm so curious about PUBG that I'll likely buy it when it launches on console.  Maybe there are many more gamers like me.
  2. The lack of XB exclusives has been talked to death on this site.  But, that means that PUBG faces less competition than it may if it launched at another time (this assumes that it actually launches this fall, which is far from guaranteed, IMO).
There's also the fact that it appears to be a very good game.  Good games sell well, generally speaking, especially when they're shooters.
So, what do you think?

Yeah, I think it will sell at least 3 million on Xbox this year. Overall the game could be the best selling game of 2017 on PC+Xbox which is huge.

I don't see it as the huge success it was on PC. I think it'll be like the Left 4 Dead games, where it's pretty successful on consoles, but the PC is where it's at.

Funny story, Gabe actually said L4D was more successful on 360. I'm thinking that means it sold more units during the launch period so more profitable. However, many bought the Steam version over time.

PUGB will not do anywhere close to the PC version. But if it can sell a couple million on X1, that would be impressive.

Good enough to justify porting it.

It will do decent, but PC will probably be the most active platform for the game for years to come.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Well, it's Xbox One exclusive on consoles so I don't expect it to be massive there. I think if it released on all platforms at the same time, it might have been more popular on consoles.

I probably should have included another option in the poll. Something like "nobody expected it to be anything like as big as it has been on PC, so who the hell knows what to expect going forward". The more that I think about it, the more I realize that I have no idea.

It won't explode as much as it has on PC but it will be one of the more populair online games for sure

Exactly. It will do well, but it won't do what people expect of what pubg can deliver on pc
