Gearbox tease Borderlands 3 - 90% of the studio working on an unannounced project
Battleborn has its defenders, but there’s no denying that Gearbox’s most recent major release hasn’t exactly set the world on fire. Fans still have one question on their minds: when is Borderlands 3 coming? Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford is suggesting that it’s already on the way.

During a panel at PAX West, Pitchford addressed the Borderlands fans in the audience and said that 90% of the Gearbox team are “working on the thing I think most of you guys want us to be working on.” DualShockers also quoted him as saying “a product does not exist until it’s announced,” but the implications are obvious.
Without that final confirmation we don’t know if the sequel will actually be called Borderlands 3 or if it might take the form of something less grand in ambition, like 2014’s Pre-Sequel. But with half a decade having passed since the release of Borderlands 2, it’s tough to imagine this next project being anything less than a full sequel.
Gearbox have 300 people working at their Texas headquarters, and the opening of a new studio in Quebec City has added 70 more to that total. Though Gearbox have published and ported a few titles in the last year, whatever the bulk of the team have been working on since Battleborn has remained a mystery until now.
