Play.com has sold out of its allocation GTA IV pre-orders - whilst GAME and Gamestation’s online offerings have already put up warning of stock running low.

Play.com’s head of games Gian Luzio told MCV that the title was “far and away the biggest selling title” he’d ever seen on PS3 – but predicted the site would have more stock back in for the game’s release date of Tuesday, April 29th.

He added that it was “already proving a real hardware driver” – especially for Sony’s next-gen console.

Luzio told MCV: "This is the biggest ever title for PS3 by a long way - and probably 360 as well. I've been really blown away by how quickly it's sold on PS3.

"Sales have gone crazy and have proven to be a real hardware driver already. We've sold out now, but will be getting in more stock as soon as it becomes available.

"We expect to have some stock back in for the day of release on April 29th."

GAME’s website at www.GAME.co.uk says: ‘We cannot guarantee delivery on the day of release for orders placed on or after the 7th of April’.

Gamestation’s site reports: ‘Due to unprecedented demand for the standard editions of Grand Theft Auto IV, we are no longer taking pre-orders for this version.’

Expect 360 copies of the GTA 4 will sell more in the UK with the price of the 360 being reduced. Customer walks into store looking for new console for new GTA game sees the 360 is a lot cheaper than the PS3 and buys the 360 and the game.

Well, the article above sounds like it's driving hardware sales on the PS3 more than than the 360 at that store at least. If the rumoured bundle gets released I'd expect that to favour PS3 hardware sales too.

WHSmith is hardly the UK, everywhere else it's the same, just check Amazon, both are £34.99.

the biggest outlay is the price for a new console if the 360 is a lot cheaper people will buy that. cheaper consoles have an advantage. Notice how Wii  on the world wide market is doubling the competition both PS3 and 360 in console sales and software sales are triple those of its competition.

360 is already cheaper than Wii and PS3 in UK and still getting outsold by both of them.

 GT 5 P i repeat is a demo, a demo wait for the full game GT 5. BTW racing games are so boring you drive around a track lap after lap. Arcade racers like Need for Speed and Burnout games receive lower scores but are more fun to play than racing sims like GT and Forza.

Ok the UK market is different to the US market where people will buy the cheaper console for the same GTA 4 experience.

 you clearly don't understand the European market at all. Just because you don't like GT5P and realistic racing at all, it doesn't mean the European consumers don't, In fact, watch GT5P sales number and you will find out all.

you clearly don't understand the European market at all. Just because you don't like GT5P and realistic racing at all, it doesn't mean the European consumers don't, In fact, watch GT5P sales number and you will find out all.


American sales numbers will tell a different story expect GTA 4 will sell over double on the 360 than the PS3 in Americas only. Anyway Europeans must be used to getting ripped off by what I have heard the PS3 is the console that gets the most advertising. The Wii numbers should be a lot higher by the way I like Nintendo more than any other company.
