That would be pretty awful, considering both PS4 and XB1 offer party chat, let alone just simple voice chat, completely free of charge.

Last I checked, both PS4 and X1 charge for online play. I can play Splatoon 2 online for free just fine and don't currently care for voice chat.

Surprisingly, this thought never occured to me^^

It's always hard to decide if Nintendo's decisions are driven by greed or incompetence. I was almost sure that the voice chat thing was on the side of incompetence.

I'd rather hope they're locking aesthetic features behind the paywall. Playable Octolings would take my money day 1!

They're not locking it behind a paywall. It's completely missing outside of LAN. If they were locking voice chat behind the subscription, we could be using it for free now.

Now our job is to complain until they let us use a competent voice chat feature (the feedback thingy from the app )

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.
