Forums - Nintendo - Skyrim Switch - Docked Gameplay (Off - Screen)

I'm thinking it is the special edition by the lighting alone. Plus I wouldn't be surprised if the resolution were 900p, but it is hard to tell from the video.

I might just have to get this game. If mod support is a thing, I will bite. I mean I have the game on PC, but it would be cool to play it on the go, and to support Bethesda's effort on this port.

The image looks soft so not likely 1080P.
But that could be due to the fact it's a camera recording it from a TV and Youtube compression.

Performance looks solid.

All in all, if you are a Switch user and love Elder Scrolls, hard to argue with what Bethesda is offering.

Looks good. Since this is probably based on the enhanced edition, I'll give it a try. It's been 5 years since I last played Skyrim (and I never played the DLCs/expansions).

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

It looks ok but comparing it to xbox 360 it looks about the same and I'm also unsure if this is running on a development Nintendo Switch which has higher cpu and gpu performance. Thinking about ps4 software that looked great on development hardware but dropped a bit for retail I wonder if the same is true here. Thanks to Capcom the Nintendo Switch has the same 4GB memory in both retail and development Switches but both cpu and gpu are faster in development Switch's to give them some headroom for development software in the background etc. Correct me if I'm wrong but the retail Switch has 3x 1ghz Arm CPU's but development kits have 3 x 2ghz and may even be able to utilise some of the 4th Arm processor. Smaller difference for the gpu. Something like 768mhz vs 1ghz.

Also frame rate or panning looked a bit choppy but this could be more about the synchronisation between the TV we are looking at and the video camera. It certainly didn't look a high frame rate though.

Generally though looks like a nice playable version of the game but it will be interesting to see how the retail version stacks up against the older generation consoles and the ps4, pc and xbox one.

One thing it certainly looks a lot better than running it on my Linx Vision gaming tablet, both visually and frame rate. Which is more like this;

Although I can get over 5hrs I think of playtime and the game still plays great even if it looks a bit naff. It's clear the Switch is presenting the game at a much higher level.

It does seem amazing that a game like Skyrim can be done to a decent level on a handheld console. I know its an old game now but it still was hugely ambitious for its time which was only a few years ago.

One of my favourite games and still finding new stuff in it even to this day that I hadn't come across before.

It's looking so far to be the best portable version of Skyrim out there, if not for the form factor alone. I think it was running on retali machines at least undocked (as far as I can recall from the DF video), and it also seems to be based off the Special Edition (better lighting, water, foliage etc.) but on lower settings, at least that's what I could gather from the previous footage and the new one. Here's a comparison on NeoGAF for reference; http://neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?s=aabc048091b0f29220fb384b2bdf0256&p=246823940&postcount=202

Yeah I'm sure its based on the special edition, as that is the latest build. I was trying to compare with xbox 360 legendary edition which was the last build that got and there are definite improvements but then when you watch the videos you see bits that look better on one and not the other. Trying to see the detail of distant objects.

When you watch the older comparison videos of Skyrim much of it looks the same across all the formats and I would say the enhancements of the build are more subtle but then at times you can see the dials turned back to keep the frame rate up. Skyrim can seriously slowdown when you are fighting dragons and there are many other events happening simultanously so that will be interesting to see. Maybe a dynamic resolution will help Switch with this to prevent the slowdown that you may have got with the ps3, 360 and on low end pc hardware.  I'm running the latest build of the pc game on my humble Linx Vision gaming tablet but I've got all the dials down to minimum and often use a 800x600 resolution to keep the frame rate high at all times to make the game more playable. It looks pants compared to the xbox 360 version. I'm sure the game is tailored to the strength and weaknesses of each format. The special edition enhancements are hard to see sometimes especially if you are running on low end hardware where you may have disabled them anyway.

Resolution looks sub 1080p...... maybe 900p?
Still looks to be running smoothly, and it looks good.

I still think with all the mods possible on pc, and so many for skyrim, the best place to play it is on pc.

I swear, in every Skyrim for Switch thread there are people who say with absolute certainty that this looks like the special edition and others who are absolutely sure it's the last gen version. Meanwhile, I'm trying to form my own conclusion from the videos but I have no idea because all we have is blurry off-screen footage.
