Forums - Sales - What will sell better - Skyrim VR or Skyrim Switch?

What will sell better?

Skyrim VR 8 11.76%

Skyrim Switch 50 73.53%

Skyrim Virtual Boy 5 7.35%

Skyrim Vita 5 7.35%

Total:68

Both Skyrim VR and Skyrim Switch launch this November.

(ICYMI: Skyrim VR is not a free add on to Skyrim remastered)

What version will sell better?

I figure the Switch version

I find this an intriguing scenario that many devs will reflect on. When expanding your game to new different platforms, do you go for VR - even though it's remained niche? Or do you attempt to make your game home console/portable/hybrid friendly so you can immediately reach the masses who own Switch? Perhaps the two technical goals share some similarity?

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I'd guess Skyrim mostly because it is my understanding V.R is tricky and it had a good showing at Gamescom

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Skyrim VR - At least it's something new (unlike the Switch version)

Both are $60 games.
Both are available on 1 console only.

There are just over 1MM PS4VR owners.
There are around 5MM Switch owners.

Neither will hit 100% of the userbase as both contain folks who've largely already bought or potentially recently re-bought the game.

I would expect the segmentation to have least likely to have played the game at all or recently would be Nintendo buyers.
I would also expect that the portability option of this solo play game to be more intriguing than VR considering the game wasn't designed for VR and will likely be met with "ok" reviews.

Considering all of that, my bet would be for neither platform to shatter records, but Switch will likely sell more.
* 100,00~300,000 for VR
* 300,000~500,000 for Switch... granted this may reach 1MM based on the early hype this game portrayed in Switches reveal video, though I think that was more of a, "see it'll play AAA games" type of response than true excitement for Skyrim.

Switch.
More Switch units out there.
People won't get sick from it.
People will play it at work, bed and in the bathroom.
You are not buying the same game on the same system twice.
More marketing and buzz (so far).

And so on.

Switch, bigger install base and a general hunger for more games on the console in general.

I can't imagine a scenario where the Switch version sells less.

A game being portable has far more mass appeal than a niche device like VR.

I'd guess Skyrim Switch, I don't know how many people even want Skyrim VR.
