From what I recall, Capcom admitted in an interview that they weren't happy with the old model either and had plans to change it even before the bitching started.

CAPCOM was trapped between a rock and a hard spot. On one end they could (and should have) racially insensitive sexist pricks but that would mean continued negative publicity or they could change it and possibly take heat a design was changed because racially insensitive sexist pricks. Of course to quell both sides they pretend it was going to change anyway.

Your not absorbing what I'm saying. The Chun-Li crying is not intended racially insensitive/sexism, but at the root that is where it steams from. Bitching at CAPCOM not only because they up played her asain features, but they didnt make her attractive enoough as well.  CAPCOM made a bad choice.

Number 1 question:  " What did they do to her face!?". They made her look Chinese. Original outcry was her facial features being "different" and not so much ugly. Chun-Li was changed to be inline with western tastes. CAPCOM are spinless about. I remember when the middle eastern guy was revealed for Tekken 7 there was outcry to have him removed. On the surface "Middle Eastern people do bad things!" In reality discrimination even unintendedly so.
