Game Informer’s latest issue contains a significant feature about Pokemon. The magazine visited Game Freak’s offices in Japan to reminisce about the franchise’s early days, the various entries, and more.

Switch was also one topic discussed. At E3 in June, it was announced that a brand new Pokemon game is planned for the system. Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda and Shigeru Ohmori both spoke about Switch and making a game on the platform.

Masuda started out with the following:

“What I’m really curious about, and really excited to see, will be the main way that people play the Switch. Will it be a home for the most part? Will it be out and about? I think that’s really going to depend on where the person lives, maybe. Depending on the country, maybe the main style of playing will be different. As we’ve been saying a lot, we always focus on, when designing the games, thinking about how the player is going to enjoy it, and what kind of experiences they are going to have. I’m really just kind of excited to see where the main style of playing is going to land.”

Masuda also said that the situation is “definitely different this time” since Game Freak isn’t just moving between handhelds – Switch is also a console. “Just playing it at home is kind of a little bit different than the portable systems we’ve made games for up until now,” he added.

Ohmori closed out the Switch talk with the following:

“It definitely is really fun to see that, but at the same time, it is definitely a lot of pressure, so we’re going to do our best to create a great game that answers those expectations.”

Man, I really hope they make this game a lot bigger than the other games. Tired of the linearity, lack of post game content, and games where I get the same Pokemon that I've known about since gen 3 throughout the entire gmae.

Something ala BotW i'd dream of...... it would be sweet

I just hope the Switch game has a good amount of post-game content (and US/UM too).

Sounds like something we won't be getting until late 2019 at earliest.

From the sound of this interview, I'd say 2020 or later is more likely.  If they are truly wondering how the system will be used, and feel that is of central importance to the development process, then they must be in early brainstorming stages.

Welp, I'm excited.

Right?  It's frustrating as hell when there's 800 Pokemon now?  It'd be nice to not know exactly what's in Routes 1-5 grass patches (Rattata, Sperow, Dunsparce and the "rare" Zigzagoon), have water filled with Tentacools and Luvdiscs and caves and caves of Zubats and Geodudes.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

What's really interesting is the part at 3:12.

Forum post: "All I ask is that they take the basic Pokémon premise of 'Gotta Catch Em All', in a large, open-ish world. Bam, done."
Masuda: "We're making it!"

Open-ish world confirmed? If they didn't want to promise that, I feel like they would have said something else. In response to the next forum post, Masuda says he doesn't know if the game will be 40+ hours, so he's clearly reading the whole statement.

Now watch it essentially be Sun and Moon but in HD

Don't exactly have high expectations from Pokemon anymore

Just in general though in Sun and Moon I was catching a bunch of old pokemon. The only pokemon game I played before Moon was Diamond and Ruby, and I recognized 90% of the pokemon I caught. Like, how bout at least use 5th-8th gen if you're going ot make a new one, and then make some rare 1-4th gen pokemon.
