Poised to become the fastest selling Wii game ever, "Wii Fit" by Nintendo has outstripped all previous records on Play.com by selling out its entire allocation in one day.

Launching in the UK on the 25th April, Play.com says it has been "overwhelmed" by demand for the new fitness game.

Debuting in Japan four months ago, the exergame sold more than one million copies in the first month in a nation with around five million Wiis in use.

Gian Luzio, head of games at Play.com, comments: "It's fantastic to see exergames in big demand. Nintendo 'Wii Fit' is going to be huge - let's hope that we can keep up with demand. We are expecting more stock before launch." 

Thats great news, looks like its going to really boost wii sales.

This would be more illuminating if we knew what the actual allocation was.

 Word.  Considering the way supply was opening week in Japan it just might not have that much of an allocation.

The end of April will be quite interesting in Others. With the HD consoles getting GTA4 and WiiFit possibly revitalizing the Wii which from several accounts isn't supply constrained in UK anymore so unlike NA an increase due to a high profile game is definitely likely.

 It stills shows a high amount of interest in the game.

True, but "high level of interest" can mean anything from a mutliplatinum success to a runaway Wii Sports-like phenomenon. Since I expected nothing less than the former, this doesn't really tell me anything.

That's good news for Nintendo, but come on Fishy - you know that sales at online retailers aren't a very accurate gauge of overall numbers. (Baby seal pictures, anyone?)

I'm looking forward to hearing how Wii Fit "doesn't count" in the upcoming weeks and months when it sits in the charts for ages on end.

That and it also calls into question people's assumptions about how Wii Fit will sell ...

Many people assume that because it is not targeted at conventional gamers it can not sell as rapidly as a highly anticipated conventional game.

WOW, is selling better than GTA, this is very good to Nintendo.
