Forums - Gaming - I owe an apology to Ubisoft over Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

I typically don't jump to conclusions or make strange statements without signficant though behind it. Thus, I can say I am typically not wrong. A majority of my predictions and ideas have always either been in the ballpark or have been close enough where I can comfortably say that I was right.

On that note, I usually don't mind admitting I'm wrong. That does not really apply when it comes to Ubisoft. For the longest time, Ubisoft has been the company, out of the whole gaming industry, that I actually hated. (This isn't a Ubisoft hate thread, but yes it starts out that way).
Dissapointment after dissapointment this generation along has caused me to further increase my loathing for the company that used to be one of my favorites. However, none of the dissapointments of Watch Dogs (original) Far Cry originality issues (bring back true Blood Dragon as a full game or something at least) and the other stuff annoyed me as pushing Rayman aside for the Rabbids. Yes, I know of the new Rayman games and they are great, but that doesn't really take as much away of the sting as it did. So when I heard about the leak for the game, I at first tried to ignore it. I generally hate leaks. I wish I did ignore it because the concept of Mario teaming up with Raymanbbids, revolted me.

Needless to say, I responded negatively. For context, this is what I said in what I beleive is the only thread I discussed it:

And there is no justification for it. Especially since I almost always tout the wait and see approach before saying something negative about a game. I can't bring myself to excuse myself of an apology due to ignorance such as, "Can you blame me? All I knew was from the leaks!", or the petty, "We don't know yet! It could still be bad!!!".

I should have thought about factors regarding Ubisoft that were recent that I liked such as Watch Dogs  2 being much  more to my liking combat and movement wise (I loooove parkour and always wanted a more realistic game having a string based weapon). Honestly Ubisoft collectively imiproved for a while, with their E3 not only being the best of the show, but fully representative of that.
Even the fact that Nintendo let reportedly let them do whatever they wanted with their most coveted IP should have been a sign that the game would be just fine.

So without much further to say, I am sorry. Ubisoft in general, but to espcially the devs that dedicated their time and effort into the game and didn't derserve their leaked game thrashed in the first place. The game not only looks objectively good, it looks fun based on the gameplay that has been shown. Whenever I get a Switch down the line, I will pick this game up.

Noice seeing myself being optimistic about the game without having seen it in motion in that thread, I had faith and here is proof!

My first impressions back when there where just a few character shots was pretty bad too.
Saw the trailer that showed actual gameplay and I was surprised, much better impression after watching that.

Basically I did a 180.... it happends sometimes your quick to judge and lateron surprised in a good way.

What did we expect? I was feeling curious, but scared due to Rabbids generally not being in quality games.

Kudos to the devs. They pulled a reverse mighty no.9 and went from being mocked to loved

Ubisoft gets a lot of undeserved hate. They're one of the few publishers who actually try to stay creative and innovate once in a while.

Game certainly seemed to have turned around opinions. Can't wait to get my hands on the game!

Got a hands on demo from Ubi at E3 for a preview article. It wasn't groundbreaking, but was fun and unique for the most part. The best way I could describe it is it feels like FF Tactics with a tinge of Kirby's Dream Course, and a little like Mario 3D World/Land during the platforming portions in between battles.

Its much better way to go :)

I think most people weren't very enthusiastic about this game at first, since the whole idea looked rather dumb. It was only when we saw gameplay, that people started to like it.

Hopefully it won't disappoint. The game looks great and it deserves to be a success.

I had no idea about the Leaks or the game itself whatsoever before e3. I'm also not a big fan of Mario either. I can't even recall the last time I bought a Mario game that wasn't Mario Kart, but I'll definitely be picking this one up. I was sold as soon as the game play trailer released. Love Mr some strategy turn based games. I am also not too familiar with the rabbids characters so I don't mind.
