All companies often tell us stuff to cover up for bad policy. If they can't deliver a good reasoning the assumptions in this direction will grow. And it is fair: after all companies would give their reasoning if they have the feeling players would accept that. If we always wait for and believe the official explanation, companies would get away with basically everything, they would've just not have to talk about it. But we should talk about bad policies and bad decisions. The only way to improvement.
And wow this blind defensiveness. Sony doesn't permittign cross-play with competitors consoles might be good for Sony, but not for gamers. I don't see that I have to take the position of the company (any company), but I have to take my position as gamer. And for me it is better if I can play RocketLeague and Minecraft with players from different platforms. Not too big a deal, but nothing I have to take the position of the company barring the better experience for the players:
