Here's an article from the airforcetimes with actual trans military men and women's perspective
Some interesting quotes:
“I have never described myself as trans; I’m a mother----ing Marine,” the corporal said. “That‘s all that matters. Don’t tarnish my title with your bigotry and fear of the unknown.”
“I would like to see them try to kick me out of my military,” Staff Sgt. Logan Ireland said in an interview with Air Force Times. “You are not going to deny me my right to serve my country when I am fully qualified and able and willing to give my life.”
“For every qualified, fit to serve transgender person lost, there will have to be another person recruited and trained to replace them,” Schuler said. “Given the small number of transgender service members and the fact that not every transgender person opts for full or any medical reassignment, more will be spent imposing the ban than would be saved in treatment costs.”
So there's no cost saving here, just the mess of replacing these qualified men and women will outweight whatever savings they'll make on treatments.

It will save money in the long run. If obama didn't implement it in the first place this would't be an issue. Just on the mental health side of it, trans being in military is not worth it. People are denied entry into the military for less.

Wut? How would the army be paying for them? He makes it sound like the army would pay for their transgender operations.
I can't believe that is the case and this is just a troubled little man doing regressive things.
He wants to be the anti-Obama so much he can't do anything. He is busy just trying to undo what Obama did and is failing at everything else.
If you've already passed all of the same examinations as your peers I cannot understand the merit of any argument discussing the "mental stability" or "physical acumen" of trans folks being made by a plethora of rather obviously fundamentally ignorant vgchartz users.
Without all of the details however, surrounding this decision, it is quite difficult to speak with any ounce of dignity on the topic so I will see myself out.
I really don't see how anyone can defend this. Even if the extra medical costs were at all significant (they aren't), you're talking about categorically denying a class of citizen - who've done nothing wrong - their basic civil rights. If this were really about cost and combat effectiveness, you could simply not cover reassignment related expenses or exclude from combat roles, but that's not the case. This is blatant persecution, plain and simple. Trump sure is fighting for the LGBT community, alright. Just when you think this administration has hit a new low...

It's always nice to see for a president saving tax payers tens of hundreds of dollars. That will surely offset the billion dollar tax cuts for the rich and balance the budget.
God, it's so great to finally have a business man in the oval office.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Accomondation would be difficult, starting with new tg-bathrooms and showers, followed by expensive operations and long recovery times. |
That's we have Special Forces operators who are trans. You have no fucking clue what you are talking about.

The military is not the place for the weak and those that need special protection. A military is about strength and getting the strongest and most dangerous people out there behind machine guns to KILL the enemy. If you feel any compulsion to identify yourself as a person with special needs or accommodations then I am sorry but the military is not the place for you. The military is the body that will fight to protect you from the radical extremists who would like to throw you off buildings, but they can't have you near the front lines to do that. I support President Trump's decision.
It does not take a strong man to pull the trigger, use a knife or drop bombs. Anyone willing to make the ultimate sacrifice regardless of their gender, religion, ethnicity, etc should be allowed to join the military.
