Forums - Gaming - What are some things you don't like in videogames?

Also, lots of text that you can't skip though. With some games I really have no desire to read the story (Trauma Center).

Here are some of my pet peeves about games:

1) Bioware-style two-choice alignment system: You're either Disgustingly Good or Retarded Evil. Try to be anything in between and you'll get punished.

2) Static worlds in RPG:s. Oblivion is one of the more recent examples: You can be the Savior of the entire planet, a dueling champion and leader of the most powerful factions in the world, and still nothing happens to reflect this.

3) "Moral/Significant/World Changing" choises that don't matter at all. Bioshock's little sisters are an example of this - the only reason to kill/save the sisters is to get the other ending you missed on your first playthru.

4) Games that are supposed to be difficult, but are actually just cheap.

5) In FPS games, weapon damage is proportional to their selection number: Okay, I know the crossbow is weapon number eight and the Machine Gun is weapon number four, but why does a steel bolt pack more punch than 30 HE rounds?

6) Graphics-over-gameplay mentality.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Hype, or more specifically, hype that a game cannot live up to due to repetitive gameplay, shoddy plot, and dull character development.

quick time events.

John Romero is going to kick your ass.

Edit:  For those who may not remember, Daikatana was a game hyped to infinity and beyond with phrases like "John Romero is going to kick your ass," "Suck it down," and "John Romero's about to make you his b*tch."  It flopped... hard.

I hate time limits and difficulty

I don't think this has been mentioned yet; invisible walls.

-poor aiming controls (after playing RE4 on the wii anything else holding a gun should not be sloppy)

-stupid AI (nothing is worse then having to count on your partner for backup only
to find they are camping a corner on the other side of the map…you know the side where the enemy is scripted to avoid)

-level up limits (if I want to go past level 99 why cat i...i mean Its not my fault the boss is not out there running in circles to get to the next level)

-extreme violence (there is only so much blood in the human body and I don’t care what gun you shot a 9mm round is not going to blow someone’s head up…unless it’s a Zombie)

-lack of save points ( as a new dad it is almost impossible to be able to game for more then 1.2 hour to 45 mins …I need to be able to save and just walk away with out having to worry about he game over heating b/c it was paused for a few hours)

-one speed cars (when trying to lay low from the cops it ticks me off to have only to options, not going or pedal pressed thru floor…we have the code and ability to have different levels of gas flow to keep a car moving at one speed that is not the max)

-lack of reasonable damage (regardless of how tough you might be a shotgun to your head is going to scramble your brain….but it should not look like a fountain just went off as well)

This is gonna take awhile:

- Long cutscenes
- Quicktime events (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
- Overly linear environments
- Lengthy exposition
- Escort missions (!!!!!!!!!)
- Convoluted plotlines
- Forced or poorly implemented motion controls
- Grinding (!!!!)
- Girly Men
- Anything to do with WWII
- Party Games
- Six hour long games
- Invincible enemies

... I could keep going all day. That was just two minutes of me thinking. There's plenty more.

Metal gear solid was to short, I beat them all in 3 days each.

Well, you can't expect much length from a shooter =/ That's why I mainly play RPGs :) I also go for 100% in games to make them longer.

MGS isn't exactly a shooter...

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
