Ya I agree. Final Fantasy XIII will be huge in Japan mainly because it is the next gen of FF. Also Level-5 which is kind of big is making games for the PS3. Dont worry once more games come (RPG) it will pick up in Japan.

I don't buy the whole people are buying it solely for later games argument. You don't buy a console if you don't plan on doing *anything* with it for the next 6 months. Playing PS2 games on it is a more likely possibility, and most likely it's just being used as a Blu-Ray player while they wait for games. Considering the software sales, Sony's actually lucky the PS3 hardware isn't selling even worse than it is.

Well really what games could they buy? The only reason to buy a PS3 in Japan at the moment is for the potential.

There hasnt been a single release (aside of Madden ) in Japan since end march and then it was a horse racing game and the baseball game of Konami .... Its normal the games arent selling and the hardware sells so weakly ...even interested people arent any urged to buy it because there isnt any new software . If interesting games arose we could very well see many weeks as the one when Gundam Mussou appeared with 45K PS3 units sold .Once the big games start to appear we will see that no doubt .

Or Blu-ray  Blu-ray has over 90% of the Next Gen DVD market in Japan, so it wouldn't be uncommon for them to pick up a PS3 instead of a standalone Blu-ray player. They can also play PS2 games on it.

Yeah. Say what you want about the potential, but the truth is they get it for BR. Same thing happened with PS2 back in the day. I remember reading that they had sold around 700,000 PS2's in Japan, but only 70k games. Same thing is happening now. Cheap BR. That is what will drive sales to the top, assuming it DOES become the standard.

Yeah Blu-ray could be the reason considering most of the consumers are probably technophiles.

Blu-ray most likely will be the standard but the problem is that it'll happen too late to help the PS3.

Indeed, when BR become the standard, the Chinese will flood the channels with $100 BR players...

Then PS3 will no longer be the cheapest BR player
