3DS launched in 2011, not 2012. The 3DS was $170 for this whole year.

I somehow missed that, but I dont see point comparing second 3DS year with 1st Switch year. In any case 3DS oficaily sold around 15m in 2011. and similar number in 2012. also.

It comes down to whether they have enough switches at october~december.
Well, the 3DS peaked in its first year so why not compare it with that?

What are you talking about? The 3DS didn't peak in its first year. I looked at the second year because using 2011 would be too easy for the Switch at this point.
Still, I'll humor you.

It probably can stay ahead because the will no other platform Nintendo is focused on and all mainline first party will be only NS in future, it only comes down to sorting out supply issues.

Compared to the 3DS' first year Switch is actually almost double the number ahead of 3DS, second year was when the 3DS started to perform much better.

That's just currently, 3DS started with price cut in summer started to sell like crazy. Nintendo oficaly shipped 15m 3DS consoles in 2011.

Even with the price cut the sales are only comparable to the Switch because the Switch has supply issues had the not been any issues Switch would take the lead easily over the first year, it's only in the holiday period where 3DS has extremely high performance but that's a given for that period. This is all because as a product Switch is selling off high consumer appeal and good software output something 3DS didn't really have early on it practically relied on its brand name.
