2 years before DVDs being forced off the shelves? I don't think so... I think 4 years at the earliest. A lot of people don't care to upgrade to Blu Ray. In a few years most people will be on Netflix instant stream or another kind of service like that and will hardly every buy a movie. Blu Ray might be one of the last disk formats before everyone goes digital or to instant stream/rental service. Personally, I think disk suck since they can always be scratched (even with the ultra protective whatever layer they say is on Blu Ray). I don't know why they don't start using usb drive or some other type of format that can never be scratched. For me I'll never buy a movie ever again. I have seen the future and it is called Netflix. I watch whatever they have on instant stream (sure don't have everything but they have a ton) and I get whatever they don't have on instant stream shipped to me. There is no point on spending money on movies / tv shows anymore. I view cable, regular tv and buying movies as obsolete now. Once people are exposed to Netflix or services like it more they will see the light.

Well it seems you obviously didnt read a single thing I wrote, except for the 2 years part. My 2 years calculations is based off of a scenario where Blu-ray really starts to pick up some major marketshare soon. Which isnt happening right now.
Personally I think DD sucks, if you actually buy it instead of stream it you have to wait for it to download, plus most of the time they dotn come with surround sound, its just 2 channel BS sound. But not with Blu-ray, its True HD with 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound. And since I actually own it and can hold it in my hands I can let friends borrow them. Not true with DD movies.
The Future is not Netflix, DD has such a small martketshare its rearely reported on due to being insignificant to the current trends and near future.
I saw the light on Netflix, it looked like a burned out light bulb. But maybe it was because I was blinded by light Blu-ray has and all they have to offer.
