I don't know, either way it's not a common name, I've never known or heard of anyone with that name. |
When I heard first I thought samus is male name .
It may be fictional name. Thanks.

It appears to be, from what I can gather, a derivative of the Celtic name Séamus, which is Celtic for James. Specifically, the female form of that name. However, it is not pronounced in the Celtic manner.

Samus Aran is a name actually derived from Pele's name (yes, the footballer), which is Edson Arantes. For some reason the Japanese pronounced "Edson" somewhat like "Samus" and then that was that. Edit: ...well, at least that's where I read. It sounds a bit too stupid to be true, but it seems like it is. |

Thank you. But I can't decide which is correct.
I'll look up more information.

The Edson bit is correct, but is the source for the name "Aran" not Samus. Samus appears to have just been a name they picked. Possibly because it is closely associated with a traditionally masculine name. Looking up "Samus" would take you to Seamus, which is James, which is masculine. Well, at least it would have back in the day. Now it takes you to Samus Aran :P

I..... dont know!
Thats a good question really. My guess is:Since I think its a made up name, its female by default since its associated to a female charachter.
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

What do you know, new Nintendo trailer showing off some off their M and T rated content. (Skyrim, Xenoblade 2, Fire Emblem Warriors)

Good to see them advertising this stuff instead of only their E rated content.

I pointed this out in another thread, but this represents a massive change from the Wii U.
The Wii U, barring the launch campaign, had so few sizzle reel ads. And those ads always appealed to the same young demographic and were super limited in the games they featured. Never did they do one that featured, say, Bayonetta 2, Smash, and Hyrule Warriors. And they never capitalized on backlog in advertising. And their ads ran for short spans. And they never marketed a non-exclusive 3rd party game. To see them market 3 games rated T and up this early on targeted at an older demographic AND marketing a 3rd party multiplat...it's a profound change.
And Xenoblade Chronicles X's first marketing presence outside trailers came in late November. So to see it showing up in an ad in October is a huge improvement.
Also, finally they have live action ads that don't suck :P

That one wasn't too bad (even though it isn't nearly as fun and interesting as the Odyssey commercial). The Wii U had some other commercials that were way worse:

How far we've come.
Also, a new screenshot from Xenoblade Chronicles 2:

Nothing too remarkable, seems this is the main base of operations for the Argentum Trade Guild. I do like how the sea of clouds looks. Interesting thing is, we can see Gramps in this image kinda docked or pulled up alongside the larger structure. So is he our mode of transportation through the game?
It still blows my mind how night-and-day different Nintendo is now compared to 2011-2016. 5 years of getting almost everything wrong, now suddenly they're kicking goals left right and centre.
The last 7 months still feel like a dream.
