Forums - Nintendo - Would the Rainway App help or hurt the 3rd party situation?

Here's something I'm wondering: would the app being approved (which is possible. I mean we do live in a world where Nintendo is open to crossplay and Sony isn't) help or hinder future Switch third party titles?

Does the ability to stream from Steam to the Switch make people think 'man, we're losing money when we could have ported games ourselves', or 'well I guess we don't have to bother they can just use Steam'.

I'm curious what's the thought on that.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

I don't really know or care. If there's an app that let's be play these games on the go legally, I'm trying it out.

If it isn't glitchy or really slow, then I'll get it. Does this use blutooth or wifi to connect to your pc games?

The Vita remote play does exactly the same thing yet it still get a fair amount of PS4 port of japanese games. Game streaming is a cool thing, but that's not for everyone. At least not yet.

A handheld gamer only (for now).

I don't think it would do anything outside of attracting more of the PCMR crowd. If anything, a streaming app could be a last ditch "screw you" option for Nintendo if 3rd parties are adamant in not wanting to support the Switch. Personally, I'd think trying to work some kind of deal with Nvidia and their Geforce NOW service would be a better option as it would give Nintendo control over how a streaming app would be used. I think the last thing they'd want is people using Rainway to stream pirated and emulated games on their platform -- especially games that they're going to put on their virtual console.

Well it'd hurt for Nintendo, because of course they wouldn't get any cut from steam games, whereas native third-party games they'd get a cut.

But I don't think it's something that would take off much.

Wi-Fi

I think it doesn't really affect third parties

Hmm, so as long as my PC is good (it's pretty great), and my internet is good (charter baby!), then that's all that matters? I definetly don't want to play choppy laggy games

Not gonna do anything either way cause it's a third party app.

Now if Nintendo did that, then we can talk about it

Nintendo make most of their money on their own software and tbh most of the games people would play through the app are likely titles that won't be on the Switch to begin with as Switch third party is more like their portables pretty unique to the platform. For example Nier: Automata runs quite nicely this is a game that won't be on NS while the SE games on NS consist of the likes of DQXI, Octopath etc...
