Historically Japan is a bigger market than Denmark and considering the XBO is selling 30k a year there it will be way more higher than Japan when it's all said and done. Since Japan is so much larger for gaming but sales all are similar right now to Denmark which is a lot smaller in the gaming market that's pretty bad for xbox in Japan and it doesn't seem like Microsoft can do much in that territory anymore.

It doesnt change my point

Your point was pretty dumb to start with.

Why would they give up on Japan? They should not spend significant marketing money there, but there's no reason not to supply retailers there with systems and games to sell. Who cares if the sales are tiny? MS doesn't lose anything.

If MS wants to ship consoles to Japan, that's fine. But consider this. The Xbox One has sold a grand total of 80k systems in Japan. In comparison. MS can sell double that in one month in the US market. To say MS has nothng to lose by being there probably isn't true though. Xbox still Being in the country is more likely to save face for PR.

Considering you're only catering to a userbase of, if customers haven't already given up on the console, a mere 80,000, there are things to consider. You have to translate games and the Xbox UI for the Japanese market, this takes significat dev time, and is costly. There has to be customer service for the console for the few people who bothered with a purchase. Setting up an Xbox team for domestic sales. People have to be paid to do that. Convincing retailers to give their product shelf space. Getting the rare dev to provide content for it is probably more costly than any revenue the console provides MS there.

So, MS sticking with Xbox in Japan is likely more of a case of being able to afford to, than it being actually worth it.

1+1 is 2

No its not

They've been saying this for years about Japan. And every month more and more games get announced for ps4 but no xbox version. Things are getting worse not better.

It's not a bad 4K Blu-ray player. Why not? 🙄

VGChartz♥♥♥♥♥FOREVER

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

The main problem is, that nobody is going to buy a forein product over a domestic one, especially in japan, with the possible exeption of apple (seriously apple is loved on japan).
Moreover, japan's console market is almost entirely handhelds. Plus they don't like FPS, to the point of metroid selling low. Its 21 mil 3ds to 7 mil vita to 4.5 mil ps4 to 4 mil wii U to 100 thousand xbones...

And he shouldn't. Japan is too important. If Microsoft no longer had a presence in Japan then they would get even less Japanese games, giving Sony (and maybe Nintendo) even more titles that won't appear on Xbox. It's worth the small amount of money they spend there.

One of the few comments here that is actually worth reading.

So Sweden and other countries are also a waste of money? The Japanese XBox One sales are still higher than many other countries

The XBO sold 300k in Sweden in 2015 http://www.dataspelsbranschen.se/media/154040/nordic-game-sales-2015.pdf

Also sold 122k in 2014 http://www.dataspelsbranschen.se/media/151761/nordic_game_sales_2014.pdf

Thanks for this info, Jason.

well the small amount sold in lesser coutries does add up, and you need less money to operate there.

however.

unlike sony microsoft already needs stuff in lesser countries cause windows. so it REALLY doesn't cost that much for xbox to be supported opposed to, say, nintendo (which is the reason they almost withdrew from korea- they wentt from 200 staff to like a dozen).
