Forums - Nintendo - I think SNESSuper Famicom Mini is a rip off. Why I suggest not buying.

Of course it's a ripoff. You can get an emulator and all of the games and more on the internet for free! You can even put a random piece of plastic on your desk to keep the illusion.

That's like saying buying groceries is a ripoff because you can just rob the store.  Everything is a ripoff if you're used to getting everything for free.

Lost for words really.

You get hardware that output in HDMI not just a disc, two controllers too.

I suspect the version of Starfox 2 will be ripped out of the super nintendo classic/mini thing and widely distributed on the internet shortly after release. Everything else you can probably emulate better elsewhere and you'll get stuff like wireless controllers and better upscaling options plus the ability to save at any point etc.

It's definitely more about being a collectable item. The cables are only 5ft long to the pads which is very limiting and just out of reach for me where I would put it if I have one. I'm going to have to place the console on the floor everytime I use it to reach which isn't very neat. That's assuming I get one. I hate paying full price for anything let alone scalper prices and demand is very strong and I already have an original xbox with a 2TB drive packed full of retro console and arcade games including every super nintendo game worth playing except for the final version of Star Fox 2 which I don't believe was ever released. So if necessary I will just add that one to the roster I guess if I can't get a super nintendo classic. I also still have a super famicom and half a dozen of my favourite games the ones I play the most.

I'm also a bit worried about emulation quality on the super nintendo classic. It's not certain it will be great quality. The NES version had input lag, inferior sound and only upscaled to 720p it was mediocre quality emulation. This time around they are not only emulating a far superior console but also SFX2 chip games (Yoshi's island and Starfox 2) if they go for a very low end SOC like NES classic then it will be even more limited and frame rates could be a problem at least for those 2 games. Nintendo likes cheap hardware with big profits for them so I'm unsure if the Super Nintendo classic will be a good choice for a super nintendo gaming experience. I may well just have it sitting on a shelf and actually play my super nintendo games elsewhere. Using a cheap arm based chipset they could easily do 4k 60fps upscaling but using a very cheap arm based soc they will not. Are we only going to get 720p upscaling again like NES classic?

A more accurate analogy would be self grown food for free. Data multiplication isn't the same as robbery.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I suggest to everyone who wants a cool way to play 21 cool games you do buy it.

You get the hardware itself, two controllers, and 21 games. You also have to factor in the quality of the emulation, which other retro consoles sometimes have trouble with. All.of that adds value to the overall package.

buy one and put is straight online for 3x the price, why be ripped off when you can rip someone else of threefold.

You know how many people buy 20 different figures/statues for their favorite character. A lot of people. The samething is done with this. People by 4 different Link statues for his poses.
