Well, to each his own, I enjoyed FF XIII and got more than 150 hours on FF XV already (and I don´t even finish it) , guess MMO's are not my cup anyway ;P
Saying that, nothing tops Final Fantasy VI, on Final series and in general for me,just my best game of all time. -Yet,cuz the best is yet to come, said my favorite tune of MGS saga :) -

Yes you have to buy the expansions. The subscription pays for the services such as, maintenance, and patches that continues the main scenario.

The amount of content and music this game has is record breaking.

So I have to buy the game, keep paying for it to keep playing so it keep being supported and if I want the major support that money leads them to make, I have to buy it as well on top of that? Yay!

It's that or it'll be like another one of those f2p mmo with laggy servers, balance issues, and hardly any content updates.

You can at anytime stop your subscription when you've burn through all the contents, and then come back when there is new ones.

It'd be more accurate to say you buy a sequel every two years, and the subscription pays for the large content updates between those sequels, the game's general large budget size (the latest expansion had a larger budget than many new AAA games lol), and ensures a good general experience (e.g. them giving EU its own servers, their gradual shift to centralised worlds, etc).

I totally understand why it's not a model that appeals to you, especially if your game time is limited to specific days, but for those that enjoy what FF14 offers and want a consistent supply of that content at its best, it's amazing value for money.

As a fan of almost all the mainline FF games, it is definitely up there as one of my all time favorites. I especially love the redemption factor of the horrible 1.0 launch, the time and dedication the team put to make 1.x playable for the those that stayed while simultaneously create a new FFXIV, and of course the rebirth that came with that release of the new FFXIV.

But I get for example an actual new game 2/3 years from Naughty Dog built at a ridiculously high quality (that improves every time) paying them just once for each of those, instead of doing that and also paying more every month between those.
It doesn't look like amazing value for my money, at all.

Gaming is alreasy expensive enough the way it is (described in the ND example) and having to keep paying to keep playing something I already bought is just not for me, even more as yeah, 4-5/7 of my subscribe payment would be going to waste as well.

As i said, i understand why it's not for you, but it shouldn't be hard to understand why it's good value for others. FF15 cost me £45, and i played it for 110 hours (which i consider a great cost to time ratio). With FF14 I've overall spent £230 (the equivalent of 1.25 new games a year), and I've played 1,952 hours. I'm effectively playing a series that releases a new entry each year, and that new game provides me with on average 390 hours of content. So while it might not be for you (and that's entirely fair), it should be clear why it works for people like me. If FF14 didn't exist, that 390 hours a year would cost me considerably more.

What's the 6th gen of Final Fantasy games? Didn't know they were divided into gens...

Story Wise Yes and no, the crazy stuff makes it amazing.

Community Wise = Amazing!!

Also the devs who do a great job, if you don't know how the original FFXIV servers ended you should check it up.

It starts basically around the 25.00 mark

But also you should just check out the documentary out if you are a FF fan and especially if you are a FFXIV fan

I've been playing the game on and off since 1.0 actually, usually for about three months at a time. I'm currently around halfway through the MSQ of Heavensward. I am very OCD when it comes to questing and stuff, as I make sure to do every quest in every zone, every instance, dungeon, raid, etcetera before progressing the MSQ. I did allow myself to skip turns 4+ for BCoB, but I completed everything else.

Since I don't get to play very much, the payment model isn't best suited to people like me, although I do think it's been worth every penny.

I currently am playing a Scholar, Summoner, and Warrior (alternating between them to keep them leveled the same). Since I do all the quests and stuff, I can quite easily keep two jobs (Scholar and Summoner are linked) leveled, and I'm actually a couple levels ahead of the Main Story. If I recall correctly, I was already level 52 when enter Heavensward, as all of the 2.0 content took me so long to complete (mostly maxing out beast tribes).

Good MMO imo. Realm Reborn of course, not the original. Every FF since 11 has been pretty eh...Square has taken a different approach to the series, evolving into an ARPG rather than traditionally turn-based. It would be nice if they made an FF in the roots of IX again, but eh, I'm sure there are some steam RPGs that can fill that department I guess.

The 6th generation refers to the 6th generation of consoles: PlayStation 2, Xbox and Gamecube. The OP is referring to every FF released after those consoles, so I'm assuming this means 13, 14 and 15 (though that is a bit narrow, not including 10, 11 and 12).
