No.
ARMS got a direct a full month before release (Splatoon is already well under a month now), and it needed one to really sell everyone on it. Pokémon never gets directs to showcase games we already know about, they only come for new announcements. Mario Kart and Smash got directs, sure, but those were in 2014 (very different times), and if I remember correctly were several months before the release of each game.

My bads I confused with the testpunch dates, but eh that's not a significant difference, it's still close to release. The Splatoon and Mario Kart 8 directs were also around a month to release. My other point remains that Nintendo uses game specific directs even on already popular games.
So my question to you and anyone who doubts a specific direct, what method should they use to release the rest of the Splatoon 2 info? A spot in a general direct? Seems really unlikely as most every other game just had a bunch of new info from E3. Or do you believe there just isn't much else to show? Also pretty doubtful, we currently have like 12 weapons 6 stages, not all the specials have been revealed, amiibo features (ugh) still unknown, we never got a full tour of the new plaza, nor have they shown any of the free updates to look forward too, and who knows what other completely new stuff they have.
