As one of the people who reported said thread I can say this. The OP consisted of a link to the channel and a line that said "visit my channel". Aside from the advertising there are two things wrong with it.

First, it had the same value of a random bot post with an ad for viagra pills. Second, there was no content, no start for discussion. This is a forum, things are discussed in here. So post your fucking content here and don't lure people into clicking on links.

The thread could've easily been improved and saved by actually saying what that channel is about. For all we know it could've been just some shock videos from some troll. Why not say what it's about and post a few example videos? If that person puts as much effort into his videos as in this 2 second OP then the videos are as worthless as the thread.

So it was deservedly closed.

Yes, self promotion is against the rules and that thread lock is perfectly fine but as Youtube Channels aren't really competition to VGChartz but at the same time we need to curb the spam we'll be making an Official Youtube Sharing Thread for people to post their Youtube Channels in along with a description of what their channels cover and if you'd like, some of your best videos.

Other rules still apply such as:

- Threads created for the purpose of advertising your own YT Channel will be locked and the OP will be directed to the Official Thread.

- Having Youtube Channels in your sigs is perfectly fine.

- YT Links in comments/articles will as always be decided on a case by case basis for example spamming your channel in unrelated threads/articles will get you a ban however advertising your channel in a community based thread such as a Game OT or Nation Thread will be allowed if it's related and if you aren't too spammy about it.

It's not that they were sharing their youtube channel. The issue is they didn't add much besides a link.

If self promotion is against the rules then what about people advertising other forums, sites and their own youtube channels in their sigs?.

 

I find it a little off as to how that thread was locked, considering there are other people on the site who do the above listed.
