Forums - Microsoft - XBOX Live! is it really worth £5 a month?

Woah, that's $10 per month, or $120 per year. Yikes.

Except it doesn't really cost that. It's more like 5 € per month (or less if you buy the cards at a discount with one of many existing promotions). Currently you can buy a 12 month card for £31 at amazon UK, which is $62 (or £35 if you don't trust the marketplace).

I really don't know where the OP got the £5 per month price from.

PS: These days, anything in Europe will look pretty expensive if you convert it to the currently very weak US dollar.

Live is definitely worth it. I actually only use it occasionally for games, but still I'm paying about 4500 yen for my 12+1 month card(13 months total ;-p), so it comes out to $3.XX/month which is pretty cheap.

Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

It is a great experience with all the features which makes gaming with friends enjoyable. If you do not have a ps3 and want to get online then I would suggest getting it. Once PSN gets a couple minor chat/ buddy join tweaks I do not plan on renewing my live subscription.

If I did get a 360, I doubt I would pay for the whole year of Live, the easiest thing to do is to get a 3 month card, though that is £15, and the whole year is £32, (amazon prices), though the price is much more appealing as a year deal

Am usually a single player gamer so no not worth it for me at the moment, although I do have the odd Halo 3/GOW itch once in a while. But if they step up the cross platform to PC then it will be much more painful to forgo. There are only 3 games you can play with PC players, Halo 2, Shadowrun and Uno. Not really impressive.

On a business sense, this generates lots of revenue, so if this means more excusitivity and ups production values of MGS games, I cant complain.

Im curious, personall i think its a rip off, i have a PS3 and the PSN now has almost as much functionallity as live and by the end of 2008 wil easily overtake live in terms of features (namely home). So i want to know are people like me fed up of being charged £5 p/month for a glitchy live service or do you actually think its worth the money?

well i play cod4, unreal, warhawk and a few others. they work perfectly especially burnout. why would i pay £39.99 a year just to play my games online when i can do it for free.

live is better in some regards ie, more games have voice chat and in game messeging plus i like the msn messenger built in, but everyone to thier own.

i have never since i got my 360 on launch actually paid for the online service, sure ive used a load of trail cards when some mates want me to join in over weekends, and i subscribed to phantasy star universe for 5 months, but thats it.

games like cod4 and burnout work exactly the same as they do on live so why pay?

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Is a 99.9% cheat free multiplayer environment worth $5/month?

Sure it would be great if it was free.

Here's the thing, I'm a pretty cheap player, I sold my Halo 3 copy has soon as they announced the price for the three new maps.... I thought it was a ripoff. I didn't purchase Katamary because I heard the new DLC was already in the game and you just had to download a "code" to unlock it. I'm not purchasing the new Battlefield game because of the so called "Purchasing guns fiasco".

But yet, I have no issues paying $5/month for Xbox Live.

I guess it just comes down to value. Cheaters/hackers have ruined the online PC gaming world for me, I choose to play somewhere else.
