Forums - Nintendo - Rocket League on Switch will have the same features as other versions, other news

IGN has more on the new Switch version of Rocket League. The site spoke with Psyonix vice president Jeremy Dunham and producer Bobby Garza about the game.

Psyonix is including all features from other versions on Switch. This includes Season mode, Hoops, Drop Shot, Rumble, and Snowday. Up to eight Switch units will be supported with local multiplayer, and up to four players to play splitscreen when the Switch is docked and two when undocked.

We’ve heard that the team is targeting 60 frames per second on Switch. That includes splitscreen as well, but we won’t know for sure until release. Other potential features like motion control and HD Rumble are also undecided.

Garza also touched on how games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and ARMS inspired them in developing Rocket League for Switch:

“The fact that they’re getting 60 fps docked and undocked, even in splitscreen [with two players in Mario Kart 8] is a huge thing for us. And then how seamless the multiplayer experience is. Their lobby system isn’t as complex as ours, but it’s so easy to use.”

“We weren’t entirely sure it (local multiplayer) was going to be possible for a lot of technical reasons, but I thought we should absolutely try it after playing through the Mario Kart [multiplayer].”

We need more developers like them.

Awesome features that Switch users deserve to experience. Like: the terrible single player mode, the terrible loot drop system, constant server issues and more!

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

This is a developer who is taking time to get a good port of the game out. Hats off to them.

Yea, nice to hear that. So used to some dev's blackmailing us or insulting us.

You know the typical. We are going to judge this systems worth on whether this game sells well or not. Translation: If you don't buy this 2 year old port, we will not release any games on this Nintendo system.

Or when their half assed port that is clearly an inferior version of that game. Rushed, poorly optimized, missing features, modes, ect. sells bad, they blame us by saying "Nintendo fans only buy Nintendo games."

Nice to see a dev see something amazing Nintendo did and want to replicate that feat.

If we start to see trends of 3rd party support that had decent time, effort and care put into them selling well on Switch, maybe it'll set the standards for others to follow suit, that is unless they continue to think we should be happy to be getting anything at all.

It's sad we have to congratulate developers for doing what they are supposed to do. It used to be that way. I am glad I have supported this game twice and whenever I have a Switch will do a 3rd time. They really should be rewarded for being good guys when in today's industry so many of them are lazy.

Sounds all good to me. I'd be shocked if 4 player split-screen turns out to be 1080p60 though. I'd likely never use it but man that would be impressive.

4 ≈ One

I'm more excited for this game than any of Nintendo's reveals - slightly edges out Super Mario Odyssey.

Glad to hear they didn't cheap out on local multiplayer - I'm looking forward to it!

Such a fun and deceivingly deep game.
