https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvvZMsTYSM0&t=0s Thought I'd add in what was the inspiration for this thread to add in to the discussion. Basically goes over that Nintendo needs AAA third party support the likes of Xbox One and PS4 and that they have to release a new version of the Switch which vastly more powerful and since Monster Hunter World is coming to everything but Switch, Nintendo need a more powerful system so it can run the game. Personally I think a system with the Switch's concept as powerful as Xbox One/PS4 isn't just possible/practicle right now and would also just greatly divide the fanbase especially since the AAA 3rd party games couldn't run on the original. How do you guys feel about a more powerful revision of the Switch for 3rd party support so soon? |
I'm not even going to click on that video because I can tell from the almost happy title that it's from SMD64 since it feels like he takes every opportunity he can to shit on the Switch with borderline concern trolling. It seems like that guy still hasn't gotten over the NX not being some powerhouse console that plays Nintendo games. Hell, one of the reasons I stopped being so negative about the Switch early on was because of watching his videos after the Switch reveal and realizing that I was coming off like a jerk.
As for a more powerful revision so soon? I don't think so. One of the best things Nintendo has going right now is a clear message with zero confusion. The last thing they need are more form factors that are just going to perplex the hell out of people. Ninetndo is still trying to meet demand so why would they go that far to cater towards 3rd parties at the risk of screwing up a good thing when it's currently unnecessary? If 3rd parties want to put their games on the Switch they'll find a way. If Capcom was able to find a way to put Street Fighter II on the Game Boy because of its large userbase then 3rd parties will do the same kind of thing with the Switch if it sells a lot of hardware. Placating them right now in such an over-the-top fashion is just going to rock the boat and I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo still didn't get that multiplat 3rd party support if they did that.
Also, man, Capcom comes off like a bunch of dicks. Nintendo gave into a lot of their demands when the Switch was being made and they seemingly take away the one IP that Nintendo was banking on Capcom putting on their device? And even if they are working on a new MH game for the Switch, they could have at least had the common sense to realize that announcing MHW for everything but the Switch would trigger warning bells from Nintendo fans and at least say that there's a portable MH coming to ease fan concerns.
