Thought I'd add in what was the inspiration for this thread to add in to the discussion.

Basically goes over that Nintendo needs AAA third party support the likes of Xbox One and PS4 and that they have to release a new version of the Switch which vastly more powerful and since Monster Hunter World is coming to everything but Switch, Nintendo need a more powerful system so it can run the game.

Personally I think a system with the Switch's concept as powerful as Xbox One/PS4 isn't just possible/practicle right now and would also just greatly divide the fanbase especially since the AAA 3rd party games couldn't run on the original.

How do you guys feel about a more powerful revision of the Switch for 3rd party support so soon?

I'm not even going to click on that video because I can tell from the almost happy title that it's from SMD64 since it feels like he takes every opportunity he can to shit on the Switch with borderline concern trolling.  It seems like that guy still hasn't gotten over the NX not being some powerhouse console that plays Nintendo games.  Hell, one of the reasons I stopped being so negative about the Switch early on was because of watching his videos after the Switch reveal and realizing that I was coming off like a jerk.

As for a more powerful revision so soon?  I don't think so. One of the best things Nintendo has going right now is a clear message with zero confusion.  The last thing they need are more form factors that are just going to perplex the hell out of people.  Ninetndo is still trying to meet demand so why would they go that far to cater towards 3rd parties at the risk of screwing up a good thing when it's currently unnecessary?  If 3rd parties want to put their games on the Switch they'll find a way.  If Capcom was able to find a way to put Street Fighter II on the Game Boy because of its large userbase then 3rd parties will do the same kind of thing with the Switch if it sells a lot of hardware. Placating them right now in such an over-the-top fashion is just going to rock the boat and I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo still didn't get that multiplat 3rd party support if they did that.

Also, man, Capcom comes off like a bunch of dicks.  Nintendo gave into a lot of their demands when the Switch was being made and they seemingly take away the one IP that Nintendo was banking on Capcom putting on their device?  And even if they are working on a new MH game for the Switch, they could have at least had the common sense to realize that announcing MHW for everything but the Switch would trigger warning bells from Nintendo fans and at least say that there's a portable MH coming to ease fan concerns.

Insanely positive. Pokemon alone will have an impact that will sell easily ten million consoles from those who finally left their 3ds units.

The next 6 months are looking mighty fine.

My concern is whether they can keep up this pace throughout next year and beyond.

I don't wanna  buy one for Mario Odyssey and then find myself back to getting only like 5 games a year that interest me like with the Wii U.

Switch definitely has the potential

I think the main thing that could really make it do even better (aside from shortages) is the price. Being offered around the PS4/XOne, it does make consumers decide and debate which is the better option. If it is cheaper, it could be the tipping point, or at least make it a contender for people that are willing to spend money on multiple consoles

Yeah with games like yooka laylee, odyssey and skyrim on the horizon it looks pretty bright to me. Pretty certain yooka, Xenoblade 2 and skyrim will all pass a million. SMO could well pass 10 million.

I think the next revision of Switch will be smaller with better battery life but probably no performance increase (not even docked mode when portable) and at that point it will have a form factor and price that fully allows it to replace the 3DS. However saying that its quite possible the revised Switch will sell concurrently with the original Switch for sometime. I think the revised Switch won't have removable joycons and docked use will require a purchase of controllers to use with it so the drop in price i.e. £199/$229 approx will be more acceptable to those who bought the original Switch.

I don't think it was ever realistic to expect Nintendo to drop the 3DS range day one and the new 2DS was not a surprise based on their past actions.

Their gameplan seems well judged so far. My own personal issue with Switch is poor value for me at the moment just not enough unique new game experiences to justify its purchase. I have no issues with the performance level except when people over-state it which I don't think helps anyone and leads to unrealistic expectations.

For me ultimately it doesn't really matter. The only way to play Nintendo games is on Nintendo hardware, and Nintendo is my favorite publisher so I by default buy basically any hardware they make. I don't need to "wait" because there's no suspense here, it's not as if Mario and Zelda and Splatoon and Mario Kart will release elsewhere.

And really quite frankly, the hardware doesn't matter. The hardware could be a shit-colored brick called Nintendo Poop and I'd buy it. Because I want to play their games and these days really I only have time to play maybe 12-13 games a year in a serious way.

Sure I'd like a shooter or action IP now and again that doesn't have mascot characters and yeah sometimes after 30 hours of Kirby or Mario, you just want to shoot a motherfucking zombie 50 times in the face with a machine gun, but hey. Sometimes yeah you want a story more than the "dumb princess has gotten herself kidnapped again, go get her and here bring me 50 stars/shine/relic/keys plz". I guess you buy a Playstation for that, lol. Overall though I need my Nintendo fix and there's only one way to really get that.

We'll have to wait and see which games the 3DS gets in 2018. If it only gets ports, remakes, 3rd versions (Pokémon) and smaller games, Nintendo will be able to make lots of Switch games.

Switch future looks good, why? the software.

Better Mario game (galaxy style)
Better Zelda game (its new and fresh)
Has new Xenoblade, SMT, Mario X Rabbits = more big rpgs than Wii U had.
Has a new Metroid.

Splatoon/Arms/Mario Kart (this could be nitnendos Halo/gears/forza) for multiplayer.

Hopefully soon 3rd party RPG games devs from the 3DS, will put effort into switch ports or makeing switch games.

looks awesome. why? Pokemon RPG!
