Only if we are talking exclusively on the consoles... that would be MS, Switch is already showing that they are going good. If we are talking money that is Sony... Nintendo is almost irrelevant to me, but they aren't in a bad place at the moment.

The games division of Sony is fine. Last gen they would not have been able to afford the marketing rights they've acquired this gen. Nintendo could use a boost in the third party department, but they covered that by making their console a handheld and less costly for third party to make games. Its a good time to own a Nintendo product right now, I must admit (outside of online). Nintendos biggest job is going to be to prove they can hang with their competition in online for sure.

That is why I was putting it on if we are discussing whole company or divisions.

Well its MS because theyre still trying to grow their platform and compete head on with Sony.

I feel the UWP thing is good if it means better support for Windows and Xbox. Two great platforms get better.

Nintendo is kinda its own thing and their greatest competitor is other mobile devices taking their audience. This is why Nintendo makes phone games.

Its sad that its taken them three generations to figure this out. Third party isnt the only thing that made Sony a market leader, just a primary thing.

MS has 1st party games though and launched or atleast funded numerous exclusives. Sony doing better at new IPs doesent mean MS is doing nothing, thats just a dumb narative people like you push.

Its also worth noting both MS and Sony have pulled back on internally developed games.

They've had three generations to learn how to creative a credible catalogue of ip. Either they are slow learners of creatively inept. Luckily, they have an insane amount of cash, so this helps them weather the storm where other companies would've fallen.

I feel crazy for saying this, but so far I'm thinking Ninten may be in a tighter spot.

They're in this tough situation where they're coming off failure of the Wii U, and now they've combined their 2 markets into one, kind of putting them in this sort of desperate situation. They don't have anything else to fall back on if the Switch doesn't do well (unless they can just switch back to a portable system). Plus, this is a major part of their business. They can't really afford to mess up with the Switch, and their E3 presentation didn't really help push their system, I feel. They're still on shaky ground when it comes to the Switch.

MS meanwhile, more so based on their E3 presentation, show they're working hard to make their console appealing, hitting quite hard on the games, ensuring they'll have a lot of ground covered on it, so they look like they're in a better position than they have been before.

Ms, they are as redundant as you can get. No reason for them to have a console. Just release your games on everything.

Well, let's see. It's really a question of which one is worse off than the other.

Nintendo's way of doing things hasn't really changed since the 80s. They still think they are a toy company and you can see that reflected in the products they make. They have sizable disconnect with adult gamers. Any attempt to bridge that gap has been a token gesture. They're fairly arrogant and have a shitty attitude with third parties. "Come to us or we won't bother with you." I don't think they've done many deals with third parties or paid for barely an ports. Nintendo just wants to remain in the past. Nintendo's problems are their own creation. I doubt they'll ever fix any of them because the mindset behind those problems are bone deep and they too stubborn to adapt. Nintendo will eventually go extinct like the dinosaurs but that will take a while.

MS has been trying to gain control the gaming market with the xbox home consoles since it entered the market but it wasn't up to the challenge of beating playstation consoles. It focused too much on american gamers and didn't increase it's exclusive game output or adapt to gamers' taste around the world. It tried a few anti-consumer things that really irked gamers. Now, MS is pulling funding from xbox. They're closing studios and stop trying to nab any third party deals. It's clear that ms has stopped trying to challenge the market leader. Something is going on with the xbox brand and whatever it is, it's not good for xbox fans. Xbox is definitely worse off.

in terms of money MS is in the best position as they can buy out Sony and Nintendo 100 X OVER and still have enough to buy some small islands.

but in the gaming industry i think MS and nintendo are in the SAME SPOT. doing what they always do for the past 20 years and sticking to there status quos.

Nintendo will continue to innovate new ways to play and xbox will continue to fight sony with power battles.

STATUS quo.
