Forums - Gaming - Whose in the trickier position: Nintendo or Xbox?

Nintendo is in the vastly better position. Things like Pokemon, Mario, Animal Crossing- sort of gurantee a safety net of many millions of adopters, particularly with their handhelds.

Xbox relies heavily on third party support. They would be completely screwed if Sony moneyhatted exclusives for some big titles.

also something interesting to keep in mind is that DESPITE Nintendo releasing a partial new portable hybrid (the Switch), there last handheld, the 3DS, still is selling somewhat competively with the X-One.

that suggests that there is certainly more of a demand for Nintendo hardware than the Xbox brand at this poiint of time. And I think branding is probably where the Xbox division is the weakest- what do you really think about when you think of Xbox? Halo? Gears? there aren't enough big franchises and IP to have pushed the division to a huge connection with consumers worldwide.

Microsoft had the conference of their life and it still wasnt enough to fool conscious gamers of their weaknesses. Nintendo clearly had one of the best games in show from first party alone and we will see how well the switch continues to sell. Microsoft showed a clear dependence on third party, which of course the mass market doesnt worry about, since, they play mostly third party games anyway. This is why Microsoft can never completely be in danger. Nintendo did better though. Next year, if Nintendo shows off the new Pokemon RPG for the Switch, Microsoft will have no shot though. Nintendo has to GOTY contenders by themselves. Microsoft if the only company which had no game of the year contender by themselves.

Only if we are talking exclusively on the consoles... that would be MS, Switch is already showing that they are going good. If we are talking money that is Sony... Nintendo is almost irrelevant to me, but they aren't in a bad place at the moment.

Sadly they both will make enough money to continue to produce consoles.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

MS, between crossplay and PC they won't have a dog in the game by 2020. They have dismantled everything that made the brand viable as a Console, its basically now a PC.

100% MS. Nintendo just launched a console that has still maintained high demand 3 months later. Sure, this may not last, but seeing that the Switch is seeing all of Nintendo's focus, and therefore all of their 1st party titles, I definitely don't see it performing poorly by any stretch of the imagination. Nintendo's first party titles always push their HHs to higher sales. So, I think sales around 3DS's, at this point, seems pretty realistic.

MS, on the other hand, just seems redundant in the console market. There is already a company that is doing what they do, offering core home console gaming, only better. Sony also has many more exclusives that are more varied. And the XBX isn't going to change this.

For one, $499 has never been a good price for a console. No console at that price has found mainstream success. MS had to quickly drop the XBO to $399, and then $50 less than the PS4, to even compete. Luckily for Sony last gen, the PS brand was large enough to overcome it. Though, I doubt they could twice. Two, the XBX is only going to appeal to a handful of markets. Namely, US, UK, and AU. Everywhere else, the XBO, and therefore the XBX, is basically dead. And finally, without any exclusives, fewer people are going to be interested in it. MS doesn't really seem to care about mending the XBox brand, which a $399 XBX and 3-4 big exclusives announced at E3 would have gone a long way to doing. They seem more interested in making money off of it while its still around.

Sony they are in so much debt while MS and Nintendo can screw up a gen without major problems. If the PS5 however dies screw up Sony is in real trouble unlike MS or Nintendo. A lesser gen or even a failed gen for MS or Nintendo as a company is a bump in the road. For Sony it's like driving off a cliff. So Sony's position is the trickier since fuckint up the  PS5 like they did with PS3, might be the end of Sony as we know it.

Nintendo can do it's own thing and be fine and MS can become a software company for W10 devices and be fine I don't think those are in trouble. Xbox might stop existing after the Xone is discontinued. The big question however remains whether there is a market for homeconsoles after the PS4 and how long that market remains big enough for the existence of a Playstation homeconsole.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

I'll put it like this....

if nintendo were to announce tomorrow that they are exiting the gaming hardware market; I will be in shock.

If MS did so though, I wouldn't just not be surprised... I would wonder why it took them so long.

This generation is easily the worst for Xbox in many ways. It's on track to sell around 60 million consoles. The WiiU still hasn't even managed 15 million yet they've managed to turn it around with the Switch.

I know it's easy to just jump on the bandwagon and press the emergency button but please.... Just... think about it.

Xbox is certainly in a worse position though. The biggest difference being the Switch.

And even though I don't play Nintendo much I would miss them a lot more.
