Well Xbox One X just got properly shown at the recent E3. The PS4 at E3 (since it's own event didn't actually show the console ). Both the Wii and Wii U were first shown at E3 (albeit announced beforehand). And the Switch was kind of announced at E3 under the codename NX (IIRC the only other info then was that Zelda was coming to it).

But now you're counting the announcement for 1 console and the first showing for another. ;)

Always? How has it ever been Gamescom?

E3 is where the big games get announced or shown off for the first time. E3 is where new hardware is properly revealed for the first time. And so on and so forth. Until another show starts being the first place big games and hardware is shown off I don't think they can really claim to have the same, let alone more, importance than E3.

Attendance. E3 only matters for marketing. As a game show, gamescom is far, far bigger.
