Forums - Nintendo - Reggie: Nintendo isn't interested in politics. It wants to focus on making people happy

You know what's BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLSHIT?

Reggie's statement.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I mean, should be a given. Nintendo's a video game company after all, not a political party

However, I don't think that things like having radical religious people in Far Cry 5 is really making a political statement though, It likely just stems from creative freedoms and having a different and interesting narrative as a result. It's not like they're going out and saying "ALL CHRISTIANS ARE CRAZY!!!" or anything, it's just the media trying to make something out of nothing.

I find it funny how some people are complaining about the Christians being killed when Far Cry 5 has radical, crazy Christians who are closer to a cult than Christianity. I mean, wouldn't everyone like to see the nutjobs within their religion being killed? I know my Muslim friends certainly wouldn't mind if ISIS was obliterated.

Good, very good. While Nintendo's focusing on avoiding politics, when can infiltrate them from the inside and force a socialist Nintendo to emerge!

This is one of the many reasons why I love Nintendo.  The last thing we need are "Disney-fied" / social justice versions of Nintendo's IPs.

It goes both ways- not always just SJW-pandering which disrupts the quality of media.

Nintendo will be democratically managed and they better like it! Kimishima and the shareholders better worry!

This is a pity and a lie.

A pity because Nintendo have some of the best minds in the industry and would definetely be able to use gaming at its best to approach serious themes.

And a Lie, because totally avoiding political stance is pretty much impossible.

Not every game should be about it, but if we want game to grow as a medium and to be taken more seriously, it is important to have a diverse content and not avoid any subject.

Hey, if Switzerland could do it in the middle of a world war, why can't Nintendo do it in the gaming & entertainment industry?

What goes both ways?  I'm not following here... if Nintendo chooses to stick to what it's been doing in gaming for nearly 40 years instead of pandering to whatever the latest social / political trends are, how does that distrupt the quality of their media?

How did I forget about that clip? At any rate, thanks for the reminder.

I would say that Splatoon, Pikmin, and Xenoblade X for a start all make statements which could be considered political. I think Reggie is just full of crap. Clearly the creative teams working on Nintendo's games have the leeway to make whatever statements they want.

Xenoblade is loaded with religious stuff. Somebody ask Reggie about that.

I think he means more that Nintendo isn't going to insert itself into current-event political issues and that's honestly a good stance to take since the only winning strategy for a company in that game is to not play.
