Forums - Microsoft - Spencer: We Have Just Signed Exclusives That Won’t Be Ready for 2-3 Years, No Point in Showing Them

Yeah it's different. Buying an exclusive or timed is worse.

Yes buying exclusives is worse. Locking licensed characters to your system is worse, Sony has been the worse for keeping games from other platforms since they entered this industry.

What exclusives are you speaking of?

Can we ask why they haven't signed those things 2 years earlier?

They did...but the games didnt turn out so well. Thats why depending on third party is not a good idea right now for Microsofts first party. Microsofts fanbase needs to be acquainted with quality developers they can internally trust like Nintendo and Sony.

Given they were willing to fund Scorpio, some big projects must be happening.

I look forward to seeing what they have in the pipeline, but what were they doing 2 - 3 years ago?

Uhh... Forza games, Gears 4, Sea of Theives, Crackdown 3, Halo Wars 2, Quantum Break, Recore, State of Decay 2, delivering on some sort of Phantom Dust release, continued support of KI, more stuff in Halo 5, numerous other small games.

They did things, solid things. They just need a few new AAA projects to change their image it seems.

I didn't say they've done nothing, i'm just wondering what they were doing 2 - 3 years ago that resulted in the absence of much new being announced at E3 from their major 1st and 2nd party studios.

Ill tell you what. Lets play a game. For every game you show that MS has kept off another console ill do the same in return for Sony. One thing Sony fans have been showing me after this E3 is its not Phil thats the hypocrite here but a lot of Sony fans.

MIcorosoft showed  a bunch of timed exclusives. Almost twenty at E3...wasnt it? No. It was slightly less, because the actual exclusives were fewer, less talked about and buried in the timed exclusives which Phil Spencer used as a talking point about 22 xxclusives.

I think we have an idea of what the 1st party studios are doing. Gears 5, Halo 6, Forza, Sea of Thieves, maybe Fable 4...

Safe bet they have exclusives being developed by 3rd party studios. Maybe some of that stuff will come the same year its announced. That happens with Forza, it happened with Dead Rising 4, and remasters. So who knows. But we gotta assume MS has something for 2018.

Sony kinda had the same issue at E3 but maybe they want a great PSX.

Thats not a list of of games that MS have kept off a Sony platform .

Ill get the list of timed exclusives in a little  (because im about to crash). Sony showed true exclusives that were higher in value and third parties for the PS4 and VR. Their focus was not on the same thing because they werent as desperate to show they had things as Microsoft was. lol

Honestly I don't know why this reply was necessary. It's not like people can't see past the defence strategy of listing an "adequate" amount of content to seem reasonable. Or what solid really means. I know you were just commenting on what MS has been doing the past few years, but the obvious point of the OG comment was that there should be more stuff ready now. And a list of groceries isnt going to change that.

Even time exclusives are worth something, which is why Sony has invested in it as well.
