Forums - Gaming - I actually agree with Phil: Sony's Reasoning For Blocking Cross-Play Is "Unhealthy,"

if xbox one is ahead of the ps4 worldwide, they would block cross play just like they did last gen

Purely speculation, but even if true, that does not excuse Sony now.

Makes me think of politics. It's like if your politician flip/flops on something they promised in their campaign once they get into office. We shoudl be pissed. We shouldn't be like "oh all politicians do it"

Would Nintendo act this way if ahead? IDK. So hard to tell what Nintendo does. I'm surprised they are doing this crossplay period. They are usually so far behind tech wise and adaption of new tech that I would have pegged them not doing it because of that reason versus them winning or losing.

It's totally understandable if PS4 players would have to make an XBox Live Account for that. Sony's userbase is huge already...they don't need to artificially inflate the player numbers.

Why this is even a source for discussion is a shock to me, Consoles are for the most part closed systems so that the company who does the work to get them under TV's have a direct store and marketplace to sell to their customers, there is nothing to gain from Sony in this deal other than getting their users to create Xbox live accounts to login to certain games, bad for business and a business that Sony is currently killing at in comparison to their rivals.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

A phil spencer interview generates like 20 threads in vgchartz, we have like 15 on this subject alone, post E3 gaming forums always turn into shit.

Seconded. It's been fast paced redundancy. As far as Sony not allowing cross-play with Nintendo or MS:

Is this really an issue for some people? For 1 or 2 games? Jesus Christ.

But it DID follow into the next.  Microsoft was against cross-play this gen but suddenly changed their policy.  NOW it's "unhealthy."  Was it not unhealthy before?

It sure as hell isn't "good will".  It's because NOW Microsoft can realize a benefit.

So you will stick to assuming thats the case. No worries.

You mean stick to assuming that Microsoft cares more about their bottom line than about "good will"?  Microsoft?  The company that routinely raids and kills start-up rivals?  The company that often gets accused of anti-competitive business practices?  The company behind GFWL?  Yeah, absolutely.  Actually, I would assume that of any large corporation but especially Microsoft.

Phil is basically asking Sony, a competitor, to help them sell a game that MS made?
Sony can't do that!
What he should expect from Sony is nothing but trash talking when it comes to minecraft, no way Sony is gonna go on record and promote anything good about a game MS made while shitting on their own console. MS must have forgotten that them and Sony are competing.
It's not like Minecraft was made by Activision or EA its made by Sony's direct competitor in the industry and in that case Sony will be biased against Minecraft and Phil will be biased towards Minecraft, and in Sony's best interest they should make it as "unhealthy" of a situation as possible for MS because they are not in business to talk nice about your in house developed games Phil......
Minecaft have become a conflict of interest for MS on Sony's consoles and Sony is calling them on it. MS should just make it exclusive to PC and Xbox, no point in looking to Sony to do them any favors when it comes to their games, gamers be damned.

Sony's reason for blocking cross platform play is just a load of PR spin.

It has nothing to do with 'protecting the children'.

It's very clear that Sony does not want to enable crossplay between other consoles because of three main reasons.

1. They lose the advantage they have of having the largest player base in each multiplayer game.
2. Doing so would make the PS4 more unattractive for new buyers
3. Sony doesn't want to have a situation where its users sign up for Xbox Live to play Minecraft.

That last one only applies for one game, which happens to be the biggest game on the planet, so Sony would rather block all games with cross play than just that one.

As Sony is a business they don't want to lose the advantages above.

I hope Sony reconsiders this approach as it's quite anti-consumer in my opinion and is clearly something that fans want. It might actually work out better for them if they do embrace cross console play.

Personally I would love if crossplay was a standard, I understand it may be impossible and companies have their reasons but sony excuse is so pathethic and fake. What exactly do they do to protect their fanbase in their own platform?

Sony is the market leader so I understand why they aren't doing cross play but still, they should have come up with a better excuse.
