Forums - Gaming - I actually agree with Phil: Sony's Reasoning For Blocking Cross-Play Is "Unhealthy,"

In this case, MS is the bigger douchebag about the whole cross-play.

Because talks about cross-play before were from 3rd party games but MS 'policy' didnt allow it. But it was equal on both sides (Sony and MS). But now because Minecraft is owned by MS so of course MS wants cross-play and more people to play their game and support them financially. So I think this is bull on MS part.

Sony's reason for cross-play is lame and should definitely cross-play with Rocket League since it was free on PS Plus too so a good way to support. What they should've said instead was "We support all 3rd party cross-play, just not Minecraft because it's owned by our competitors."

Also, Phil Spencer is totally right about that whole "security talk", Microsoft and Xbox Live are one of the best in term of security.

And sony should not try to give lessons on the subject after what happened with their customers credit card info and passwords, in 2011 if I remember correctly.

Yep, and we'll see how this affects sales.  Here's a hint, it won't.  Like I said in another thread, Spencer is throwing shit against the wall to attack Sony or try to be the good guys to Nintendo fans.  It's not working.

My only complaint is that Sony didn't give the real answer.  It has nothing to do with the children.  It actually makes more sense than that.  MS is forcing people to join their network to play the game cross platform. Sony not only doesn't want MS padding its MAU numbers with PS gamers, but they don't want them getting their info, either.  MS could have definitely done cross platform without XBL if they chose to.  Personally, I think Nintendo is going to regret signing up to give MS complete control of this.

What does the bolded part mean?
And why would Nintendo end up regretting this?

The bolded is speculation that if 15 million XB1 players are online playing that game with 3 million PS4 players MS will come out and say that on Live they had 18 million MAU for that timeframe.

Ah. And what does MAU stand for?

Monthly Active Users.  It is what they use in their PR instead of units sold to indicate that they have a healthy ecosystem.

Well, its pure strategy, since Sony is leading the console market, doing this, they will force to get the PS4 version of the game, or get a PS4, since most ppl will be playing it on it. If they had lower numbers, closer to XBOne, they will agree, in order to get ppl to have a 50% chance to get the game in PS4, which is not the case. They can go for the aggressive choice, knowing it will succed.

For a guy that doesn't like fanboys, Papa Phil is sure giving them ammo. Somebody muzzle this guy. Bring back the Big Don.

I see. And I just saw the topic about how if you log into Minecraft cross play on Switch, you log into Xbox Live: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=229507&page=1

Lol, I guess that answers my second question about why Nintendo could come to regret it.

Yep.  Once they go cross platform, Nintendo loses all control.  Which really is the bigger reason Sony said no.  MAU is definitely in there, especially after Sony just spanked MS on their claim of having the largest gaming network, but not the main reason.

I don't think it has much to do with what position they are in or forcing people to buy PS4's Minecraft.  More likely to do with the reasons I stated above.  Losing control of online, PS gamers having to give MS their info to play, and inflated MAU numbers for Live.

ABsolutly. This wont affect anyones purchase, no matter how much fuss is made online about it. The answer was stupid at best, honestly, and they could have made up any other generic answer that would have made sense, but hey, I really dont care. Hell I dont care about any game out on the market right now that supports on any platform cross-play, and Im certain that nobody will make a purchase decision based on it.

Yep. And I just checked Amazon.  We are already a few days into this announcement and the online fuss.  Hmm.  PS4 Minecraft #79.  XBO Minecraft #238.  Like I said, Spencer is just desperately flinging stuff at the wall and none of it's sticking.

Sony has a huge advantage in the Multiplayer department. A larger player's base literally means faster matchmaking and extended longevity for their gaming community. Even if a game loses %50 of their players base after the first 3 months, Sony will still have more active members than XBox at launch. Why will anyone give this advange up?

Can you imagine being ignored by a girl for years during high school, and that she suddenly calls you back and asks you out after she read online that you turned out to be more successful than her? F*** that B****

Well, Microsoft rejected cross play last gen, and suddenly now that Sony dominates the market they are interested?

This is a bu$ine$$ decision and Sony should have been %100 honest about it.

if xbox one is ahead of the ps4 worldwide, they would block cross play just like they did last gen

Just 6 min after the topic was created the topic could've been closed ... but here it is.
