Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto: Pikmin 4 still "progressing"

Almost 2 million in sales is niche now? You all would be destroyed if you're saying this in a Sony game list praise thread.

We have plenty of games in the meantime guys lol, I donno how you guys burn through them so quickly!

I imagine Pikmin will be a perfect first-half of the year release for them to fill any potential voids; it's not quite a system seller like Mario/Zelda/SSB etc, but it definitely sates any game hungry Nintendo fans for a time.

I personally can't wait... in some ways I think Pikmin is one of Miyamoto's most clever and creative ideas; how you go from creating franchises like Mario and Zelda to then also thinking up a brand new and almost completely unique type of game in the form of Pikmin is beyond me... It really has the appearance of one of those super-clever indie titles, and it really reaffirmed to me that the man has lost none of his passion.

That's why he's "Creative Fellow" and not in charge of laying out the release schedule lol

He's never struck me as the type that's both game designer and CEO the way Iwata was, he's just 100% games through and through.

It's Nintendo, bro. We need games every week or else Nintendo is screwing with us. Indie games don't count, only AAA.

Can't say I'm particularly excited for another Pikmin, but it is still a quality game series that is inevitably on its way so that's good news I suppose.

Pikmin is not a high priority project for Nintendo. The series doesn't sell well and is very niche in appeal. If it wasn't for Miyamoto they probably would've let Pikmin died already.

Bleh, that's nonsense... it's not Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, or SSB, but otherwise it's a solid entry that always sells well. Topping a million sales each iteration is nothing to scoff at, and certainly fills that void. More importantly, it isn't just shoveled out the door but is routinely rated in the high 80's to low 90's, and it's an exceptionally unique experience that's absolutely charming.

Miyamoto's backing has definitely helped, but it has so far received just three titles in about 15 years; they don't come out particularly often.

that awesome..hopefully its more like pikmin 2

Hope they take theyre time to create a game thats longer than Pikmin 3 was.

Indeed, Pikmin has potential to be a big franchise, the technology is there now. Now they are used with HD development, I am expecting Pikmin 4 to be huge!

Tbh I think the game is done and running on Switch, back in 2015 it was probably meant to come out on Wii U but then they decided to port it over to Switch, I wonder how developers feel about starting a new project while knowing that the game they just finished isn't out yet to give them some kind of feedback, I don't think they would start working on Pikmin 5 since if for some reason Pikmin 4 disappointed the fans they would likely have to scrap a lot of the work done on Pikmin 5...
