Pikmin is not a high priority project for Nintendo. The series doesn't sell well and is very niche in appeal. If it wasn't for Miyamoto they probably would've let Pikmin died already.

Bleh, that's nonsense... it's not Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, or SSB, but otherwise it's a solid entry that always sells well. Topping a million sales each iteration is nothing to scoff at, and certainly fills that void. More importantly, it isn't just shoveled out the door but is routinely rated in the high 80's to low 90's, and it's an exceptionally unique experience that's absolutely charming.

Miyamoto's backing has definitely helped, but it has so far received just three titles in about 15 years; they don't come out particularly often.
