PS3 vs 360 in 08.

Top Game: Gears of War 2 vs MGS4

potential bomb-game: Too Human vs Haze.

Feel free to disagree with me.

I reckon Fable 2 would be the 360's biggest game of the year.

What huge games has the PS3 got this year other than MGS4?

Obviously thats assuming FF and GT don't make it until 09.

As far as sequels go, Motorstorm 2 and Resistance 2. Resistance 1 and Motorstorm 1 both sold more than Fable 1 (this is because Fable is primarily a PC game). Also Tekken 6, but I don't think this is such a big deal anymore.

don't forget the new socom, littlebigplanet and wipeout hd.

PS3 has more momentum than the 360 in sales terms, the games coming out between now and the end of the year represent a majour factor in how 2008 sales will pan out for the 2 consoles, games like GTA should boost sales of both consoles, i expect the PS3 will get more of a boost though. Exclusives on both consoles will increase sales as well, at the moment id say the PS3 is going to win there too, games like Gran Turismo 5 (if it comes out this year) and MGS4 will no doubt have a majour chance of good sales which will boost the PS3, for the 360 whilst Fable and Gears of War 2 will be good they probably wont have the same sales as MGS4 and Gran Turismo 5. Blu Ray sales will also be a factor, assuming Blu Ray becomes even more popular this will boost PS3 sales still further, PS3 also has Home which looks like it could get a lot of media coverage, possibly providing another sales boost, unless the 360 announces another majour exclusive and takes another price drop, the PS3 will win 2008 and could do so comfortably outside of the US. This wont affect me too much though as i own both consoles, i can buy all the exclusives and multi-platform games i want and reap the benefits of each console.

Fable was one of the Xbox's biggest games, it came to the PC later on........

Resistance and Motorstorm arguably only sold more because of bundling as well.  At the end of the day Fable 2 is more likely to have system-selling potential, as it's fanbase is on a seperate platform to the 360, whereas the two PS3 games only have preceding titles on the PS3.

But wouldn't this same logic lead you to believe that GeOW2 won't be as big a system seller as MGS4, since GeOW was on the 360 already?

Just look at the weekly world charts for games. The PS3 has high weeks (DMC4, GT5 demo and the week Army of Two, Rainbow Six and another PS3 hit). Other weeks, it's getting thumped by 2-1 by the 360. What I am saying is - you'll see more PS3 sales but what if the attach numbers are staying the same? Don't forget - some folks buying the games were already PS3 owners too.

If you don't believe me about the Blu sales, look at the rising number of Blu movie sales. And I don't have numbers, the PS3 is the best value. I would be hard pressed to see data that states folks are buying PS3s and tons of games.

Actually I looked at the software sales for each week, and I saw that there was a pretty consistent ratio of 1.5 to 1, software sales for 360 to PS3, which goes along well with the install base ratio of the two.  This ratio only seemed to show a drastic change based on new releases for one or the other console.

As the installed base for a console increases the percentage of users that buy a particular game decreases.  That's why the PS2 didn't have any games that sold to 25% or 30% of it's installed base like the Xbox and Gamecube did.  The fact that the 360 has a ratio that is close to the ratio of the 360 and PS3 installed bases is pretty amazing when you take that into account.  For whatever reason the PS3 is simply not moving as much software as it should be.

Wow. Is this the *first* supposedly neutral thread that showed this much support for the PS3? Whoah.

Hey, I'm gonna click the advertising here, ioi must be putting in some good hidden messages or something

they are still huge exclusives. they were both million sellers minus the bundles anyway, and with a MUCH bigger install base at release, they are certain to sell big. especially since the first installments both got 80+ reviews. so they still count as huge exclusives for sony.

Sorry mate, i love Gears of War as much as any fan, but im not deluding myself that it can sell enough copies to put the 360 back ahead of the PS3, just look at the games that have system seller written all over them for the PS3.
