Forums - Gaming - PS3 vs 360 in 2008

I do believe the PS3 will outsell the 360 this year, but not for gaming. Folks will buy it for the Blu Ray aspect. Yeah, a few will buy it for playing games, but continue to watch the attach rates. If folks are buying a PS3 and not games, guess what? We still lose. Folks were waiting for the end of this format battle - Blu won. Now, folks are looking at what Blu Ray players can do and realize the PS3 is, by far, the best one on the market and the best value. True, the GT5 demo is sweet, but most folks are buying it to play their Blu movies and not games.

everything after the bolded part= fail.

Ok, provide some numbers to prove that a large number of PS3's are being sold to people who have hardly any interest in games. Since it IS the best Blu Ray player as some people have said and it IS the cheapest. How hard is it to imagine that 10k a week of sales in the U.S is just as an HD player?

Tease.

thanks for the lists

but the 360's got a much more extensive exclusive list then i thought
doesn't look bad at all

Except for the fact that over 30+ of the games can be bought on PC?

So what's your point? Not everyone has a gaming PC and some people might just want a console instead. There are many console games that won't be on PC and it's kind of ridiculous to say "Well buy a PS3 AND a PC" when they might only want to spend under $400 to begin with.

You still can't just exclude a platform. Should a guy that owns only a Wii and a 40gb ps3 say "Well, Bully is Wii exclusive to ME, because I don't own a 360"?

We're talking about lineups and the lineup for the 360 includes every game being released on that system in 2008. As soon as you start eliminating games on a system because you don't feel they should count you change what the actual lineup of that system is. When comparing the 360's lineup to the PS3's it doesn't matter if a 360 console exclusive also appears on PC because it doesnt change the fact that the game won't be on the PS3. The kind of comparison you want is a 360 vs (PS3 + PC) which isn't what the topic of this thread is about.

BC....you really need to work on your arguments....seriously it's hurting my brain.

Madskillz, I'm wondering if you are stating things that you think will happen based on previous data, or simply what you want to happen. Looking at the sales of some games based on region, I see the attach rate of the PS3 version coinciding well with the 360 versions. COD4 the 360 did slightly better by region, DMC3 the PS3 did slightly better by region, Burnout Paradise did slightly better on the PS3 by region.

I would be interested to see if you have some data that would corroborate this theory.

Look above at the part I bolded.  The topic may have been about the line up in general, but this particular conversation was about EXCLUSIVES.

The ps3 will sell more hardware. The 360 will sell more software.

I'm really excited about some of the 360's exclusives on a personal level but if some of the ps3's major hitters actually come out this year it'll probably have the edge in regards to exclusives.

@ Torillian

Just look at the weekly world charts for games. The PS3 has high weeks (DMC4, GT5 demo and the week Army of Two, Rainbow Six and another PS3 hit). Other weeks, it's getting thumped by 2-1 by the 360. What I am saying is - you'll see more PS3 sales but what if the attach numbers are staying the same? Don't forget - some folks buying the games were already PS3 owners too.

If you don't believe me about the Blu sales, look at the rising number of Blu movie sales. And I don't have numbers, the PS3 is the best value. I would be hard pressed to see data that states folks are buying PS3s and tons of games.

That's not a fair comparison, because the 360 has a larger install base than the ps3 (~1.6:1), and a much larger library of games to choose from (well over 2:1).  The fairest comparison to make would be between games released simultaneously on both platforms, the most recent being DMC4, Burnout Paradise, Army of Two, etc.

this proves absoloutely nothing, as the 360 has a 7 million advantage in hardware. and the one region where the PS3 has a better LTD than the 360, it sells next to zero software.

11 million vs 4 million? (America LTD) I think the 360 is going to sell more software. Especially when just last week there were 4.2 million software sold in America and only 2.6 in others. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that based on simple math and logic the 360 will outsell the PS3 in software.

stop failing madskillz.
